Aurora Sound Studio arrived!
Great to see this all in one app arrive at the app store today. Here's all the detail you could want:
Aurora is a pattern based musical sequencing software. By simply choosing a musical scale every note you play is in perfect tune, leaving you to make your own great sounding music.
If you are a more accomplished musician you simply switch Aurora to advanced mode and you get full control over the built in instruments and effects, as well as many advanced modes such as the Atomizer and XY Mode which allows you to manipulate sound in real-time. You can create your own instrument from recordings made using the built in microphone. Just think, a full drum kit of you beatboxing into the microphone!
Aurora allows a mixture of pattern based recording and live performance. You can piece together complete compositions or simply improvise a performance. All of which can be captured to a file, for use as a ringtones, or to share with others.
An integrated mixer, combined with the ability to add audio effects and layer automation means that you achieve a sophisticated sound in a fun and user friendly way.
The online Aurora Song Library allows Aurora users to share their tracks with the rest of the Aurora Community. Browse the library to download the latest tracks, or search the library to see what your favorite Aurora Artist has published. The Aurora Song Library can be found at http://aurora.4pockets.com/

Absolutely loving this app. Just wish it had a record function similar to soundgrid. But that can be overcome with more patterns. 10/10...
The record option will output an wav file and can be found from the file menu and is called Record to File.
Once you have created the wav you can use the Manage File option in Record it will let you convert it to native apple AAC format.
I've spent most of the day playing with this App, which must make me a bit sad given the weather in the UK.-).
My feeling after 8-10 hours total use Is that it's a very impressive App. It contains most of the raw materials that are required for a rounded music production environment. A decent felxibe sound engine using both synths and a sampler. The ability to both record and import your own sample content. A combination of pattern based song construction with exceptionally flexible automation, with a good number and range of effects tied into the automation functionality.
There are some quirks, the strangest being the need to move to longer note lengths to trigger longer notes having the unfortunate side effect of lengthening the pattern until 16 units of the new note length have played. (If I'm just missing a setting please let me know?).
(I'd also like the option to choose the sample start as well as the loop points but hopefully this will come in a later update.)
There are so many options that it takes a little time to get into a decent workflow but once you've read the included help files it's fairly logical and the impression is one of lots of simple actions building to produce a more complex whole.
Currently I'm mainly using it on my iPad with 2x graphics, which I have no problem with and which is a bit more forgiving for finger prodding.
A very classy App given that it's version one. (no doubt helped by being ported from another platform.)
Thanks Skipp for the review. If it is ok with you I might include that in a post about the app
That's fine by me.
If you have a look at the Facebook page you'll see that there's a bit of a debate going on about sustaining notes. It turns out that using long note lengths doesn't sustain notes even when using long release times. (This does appear to somewhat limit the concept of the Pad Synth..?!) importing samples to a drum track will allow them to play full length as one shots but they can't be looped.
This is slightly frustrating but we shouldn't lose sight of what this software can achieve on a phone for the price of a coffee and a muffin!
This app is clearly amazing, and leagues ahead of any other music app I've used. I use an iPod and the grid is a little hard to use, but in terms of power, for instance, it's like 100 times as powerful as beatmaker. Amazing!
I am very happy with aurora. Im ready to make this my exclusive beat making tool. My only issue is that I cant import my samples into this app.I understand how to get to the Data Exchange FTP window but thats as far as I can get. Any help would be appreciated.
