WWDC has gotten very expensive. In 2010 the ticket price increased to $1600 up from $1300 in 2009.

It is a great way to get started with iOS development. And if you happen to have a product that is at its debugging phase it can be very valuable due to the unprecedented access to Apple engineers in the labs at the event.

But last year Apple started providing free access to all the WWDC session videos for all registered developers. (In previous years they charged something like $800 for access to the videos.) So if you just need to stay up to date on the latest iOS developments then it is no longer necessary to attend WWDC. Of course, you can't put a value on the networking and business opportunities.
