No real surprise that they don't think it's an iPad killer, and certainly from a mobile music perspective I'd have to agree. However, I'm still vaguely tempted to get one.

Etch-a-sketch app for the Kindle

Gadgetlab posts on this etch-a-sketch type app for the Kindle. If you think about it it makes perfect sense from the point of view of the screen.

I'd always thought that there would be more of an app ecosystem for the kindle, but perhaps Amazon are holding off for their new tablet?

Are Amazon getting a Kindle Tablet ready for later this year?

I read this yesterday at TUAW and started to think about the Kindle and if I thought that Amazon could make something like that into a real competitor for the iPad. I think they could if they were really careful about how it was positioned so as not to alienate their existing loyal Kindle users and also to set it at a price point that fits both with the current Kindle and hits way below the iPad's pricing.

As for audio / music etc. I doubt that that's high on their agenda, but I'm happy to be surprised.

Amazon bringing ebook lending to libraries

I read this at mashable and I have to say that it is a really smart move from Amazon. At the moment it sounds like it will be only in the US, but I wonder if they'll be able to bring this to the UK.

Amazon launching ad supported Kindle

I have to admit that I don't really get this. The Kindle is already really cheap in my opinion, so why release an even cheaper version?

Everyone I know who has a Kindle loves it and thinks it is an excellent e-reader, so I can't imagine why they've decided to launch a cheaper and arguably less attractive model.

Amazon to bring apps to the Kindle

According to AppleInsider Amazon is approaching iOS app developers about porting their iOS apps to the Kindle. Apparently Amazon is especially interested in educational type apps which makes sense.

I doubt very much that there will be a space for audio or music type apps on the kindle, but the device does have a mic and speakers, so it can't be ruled out.

Unboxing a Kindle

Not mine, but I got to have a little play with this device and really liked it, for reading of course, not music at all, but I was really impressed with the display.

Following Google's announcement of their e-book store, Amazon have announced a web app and the ability for self published authors to get their work on the Kindle platform.

NOOKcolor Impressions

Interesting post from Gadgetlab on NOOKcolor against the iPad's iBooks app and the Kindle. Sounds like NOOKcolor has done well. The downside is that although it is an Android device it doesn't have full access to the Android Marketplace.

Kindle Singles is not about dating

Amazon is bringing a shorter format publication to it's Kindle platform. The 30-to-90 page e-chapbooks aim to split the difference between feature-length magazine articles and shorter books.

“Ideas and the words to deliver them should be crafted to their natural length, not to an artificial marketing length that justifies a particular price or a certain format,” said Amazon’s Russ Grandinetti. The costs of print production, marketing and distribution have historically driven the page-counts of book monographs up and the word-counts of magazine and newspaper articles down.

Sony's new eReaders are missing the mark according to this post from Gadgetlab. No wifi is a serious drawback for a reader device in my book and theirs.
