What I've been playing with this week

I haven't had nearly as much time to play with apps as I'd like this week which is a shame. Anyhow, I've played with a few things, and here are my impressions:
  • Songify. I almost didn't put this down as it really is just a toy app, but the tech behind it is quite impressive.
  • Nanoloop: I still have a big bunch of unfinished tracks in Nanoloop and I keep going back to them to add bits and change bits, but I wonder if I will actually finish them
  • Looptastic: Messing around with stuff, that's all
  • SoundGrid Live: I've really been enjoying this since launch. It is very simple and straightforward, but also has depth to it and I  find I can get lost just playing for quite a time
  • Grid Music: Enjoying the new features in the latest version
  • Sprak: Just making some noise
  • Synthicity itself: I like this noise maker synth on the iPad quite a lot, for fun.
  • SoundPrism Pro: I keep coming back to it for just making a nice sound
  • Multitrack DAW: I've been making something using ...
  • CP1919: For strange sounds and ...
  • Curtis for iPad: For making equally strange sounds
  • Cambox: Just for fun and being silly
Now that I finished the list it certainly looks like I've been playing with a lot of stuff and maybe I've had more time that I thought. Anyway. what have you been using?

Hi I have been loving synthtronica.it's just wonderful

- SampleWiz: installed a couple of sample packs; more experimentation with recorded sounds after watching the latest JR hotel room video.

- iMS-20: I've been working on a patch to use in SampleWiz; the latter won't take samples longer than 10 seconds, but that's still enough time to open the low-pass filter and close the high-pass.

- Finished reading Rick Snoman's "Dance Music Manual." Very practical, whether you're making dance music or something else.

Anonymous, what do you like about Synthtronica? I've watched the videos, but haven't figured out (so far) what its niche is.

Hi dswo-it is sort of unique but a bit stand a lone.it has some beautiful timbres/ sounds and you can record or copy audio in for you base sound.I use funk box to create some nice pulses by just recording hats or bass drum and then you know what bpm your at. The dynamic multiple touch filter can over dub the timbre and create a new one. Needs core midi but i am sure it's on it's way.sort of a very unique sound. I use vox 3000 to create sentences/vocal line which you can then set across the keyboard and vocode.

@dswo where did you get your sample packs for Samplewiz?

On the synthtronica thing: I at first thought it was limited based on just the stock patches but I have come to find that if you can cut out a lot of the reverb and you have yourself a giant synthesizer with a truly great filter.

The way I use it is pretty simple. Take any sound file you are working with and copy it to pasteboard. Open and paste the track into synthtronica. Now that drum loop/synth lead/vocal track is now mapped to a full keyboard that you can tweak out using synthtronica's filter(amazing) using any of the tools the app has. The cool thing is that the sound file gets mapped to the keyboard so it changes pitch with the corresponding keys pressed. It can turn a simple single vocal line into a 10 part harmony with a filtered sound. Then you can record your "performance" in the app and resample it cut out a part and use that newly created sound as the dormant for the next sound file you upload. It really is powerful. It just seems limited on the surface. For the price and what I was anle to squeeze out of it. It is worth checking out. If you have anyother questions concerning the app or any app feel free to hit me up.

I have a track on soundcloud called "Entrance to bigger things" I used the DM-1 drum machine and ran it through synthtronica's filter to get some interesting sounds. Check it out: soundcloud.com/freesoulsound

I won a promo code for Electronic Piano Synthesizer so I am trying to figure it out so I ca do a small review on it. I picked up Sunrizer to compare the two and will start messing with that one shortly.
I picked up Monolith Loop and Pulsate this weekend. I was shocked to see that they are basically the same app. The design of the apps are pretty much identical. Hmm. I noticed the same thing with SoundZen, Sound Cells, and Otomata. At least the creator of Sound Cells gave credit to the web version of Otomata as his inspiration.

I was looking at the custom cable on the SoundYeah website and it got me thinking. I had Jester's Digital Hits Factory on my PS2 and it came with a USB Sampler. I plug it into the camera connection kit and it works. Mic/Line In over USB no problems. This should hold me until I can afford the Alesis IO Dock.

Getting my Monotron this week inspired me to hook it up to Filtatron, and now I just can't stop playing with Filtatron! I use it regularly anyway, but this has just totally ignited my creativity with it. I plan to make some vids as I need an excuse to learn Premiere for work.

robman84, please do make those videos. I've used the Moog app to mangle some Funkbox tracks and disguise my bad keyboard playing, but I'm stuck there, with almost no direction and very little control.
