Clipsitron light controlled synth on Etsy

Part martian space craft, part synthesizer, the Clipsitron by Rarebeasts is a Theremin style musical instrument that uses a light sensor to make a large range of electronic sounds. This unit is so easy to play, all you need to do to change the frequency of the sound is wave your hand in front of the light sensor.

The body of the Clipsitron is made from Jarra and the legs are made from Huon Pine. The unit is finished and protected using natural wood oils.

TheClipsitron has only one control and that is the light sensor in the middle of the unit. The less light that goes into the sensor the lower the frequency. The Clipsitron is played with the hand by blocking light from entering the sensor or can also be played using a small flash light(not included)

The sound output is via a speaker on the bottom of the unit.

All you need to start making sounds is a common 9 volt battery.

I hope that gives you a basic idea about how the Clipsitron works, if you have any questions please feel free to convo me. You can also follow me on twitter, for updates on my products: @Rarebeasts

*Note this unit will not invade earth.

http://motion-soundscape.blogspot.com"

Now this sounds and looks like something that's going to be right up my street. I'm really looking forward to it now.

Sorry, just found a bit more information about the app ...

"With this application you can easy experimented with creation new and unusual sounds from ordinary samples. For sound designers and those interested in creating ambient or experimental electronic music, with filtering and mixing of up to three oscillators, you can create excellent soundscapes, textures and drones for your music or for movie soundtrack or entertainment apps and games.

The oscillators, based on simulating schematics of actual 8 bit lofi sound playback chips, have circuit bending like controls that are ideal for making glitches, noises, crackles and granular sounds. Combined with the filtering and spatial mixing options, you can expand these sounds to deep and atmospheric textures.

Finally you can add motion and continuous changes to your sounds via low frequency oscillators which can control the filter and mixer parameters."

Zed Synth Introduction (video)

Zed Synth arrives

Have fun making music and creating amazing & unique sounds with this powerful synthesiser for iPhone & iPad.

Zed Synth is easy to learn, with live graphs throughout and built-in help for every knob, but it's a real powerhouse synth combining virtual analog synthesis with physical modelling. This innovative blend of technologies allows you to create rich and immersive sounds, ranging from bright electronic dance music patches to subtle and expressive solo instruments.

Zed Synth is also a unique audio effect processor: you can route external sounds through the synth and completely transform them: use the microphone and transform your voice, turn drum machines into strummed guitars, or radically transform the sound of any other Audiobus-compatible app!

Over 140 presets covering a wide range of styles provide a great starting point to making your own music. And you can easily share your patches with friends and other IOS musicians.

Key features:
  • Wave-Shaping oscillators: inspired by 1950s vacuum-tube technology, 4 parameters allow you to create a vast array of original oscillator shapes which can be modulated in real-time.
  • Physical Modelling: a sophisticated resonator can be either struck by a mallet or excited by the synth section (including external audio) with different forms of interaction to simulate blown, bowed or struck models.
  • Unique Audio effect: the Zed Synth can process external audio via Audiobus and pass it through its string model. This unique effect can turn unpitched sounds, such as beats, into pitched sounds, akin to what you could do with a vocoder, only more responsively and with a much richer timbre. Using this approach, Zed Synth can radically transform the sound of any other Audiobus-compatible synth on IOS.
  • A unique “Spring Box” effect capable of emulating the full 88-string sympathetic resonance of a piano soundboard, or simulating the body resonance of a musical instrument.
  • Oscilloscopes throughout the user interface provide clear visual feedback and ease of use.
  • Built-in Help system throughout the app to explain each of the modules and all the parameters.
  • A Powerful Modulation system makes it incredibly easy to add modulations from a variety of sources to any of the synth’s parameters.
  • The Granulator: a different take on the ubiquitous arpeggiator, the granulator can periodically or randomly retrigger the sound, and also vary the pitch. This makes it possible to create rhythmic chorded sounds with a human feel to them, or completely chaotic sounds like raindrops on a tin roof.
  • Synth Overview displays the signal path and routing of the various modules, as well as making it easy to jump around sections when editing.
  • Effects to further enhance the sound, including a stereo expander to enrich the spatial complexity of the signal.
  • iPhone support: Zed Synth has been specially developed to run on both iPhones and iPads. Actual polyphony will depend on the speed of the device and older devices will not be able to recreate a full 88-string piano reverberation effect.
  • Patch Sharing: Zed synth makes it easy to import & share patches with friends via e-mail.
  • MIDI Learn mode so you can quickly & easily map your MIDI controller’s knobs to the synth’s parameters.
  • Audiobus (including presets), Inter-App Audio and Core MIDI.
  • 4x Oversampling: this greatly increases the quality of the sound and reduces aliasing at high frequencies. It can be disabled to reduce CPU utilisation.

Headphones, an external controller keyboard and a sustain pedal are highly recommended to get the most out of Zed Synth. Older devices will have reduced polyphony.

Full support and user manual provided online.

Zed Synth costs $9.99 on the app store.

AUFX:Push app preview video, and a few thoughts on the AUFX series ...

Video description:

"Coming soon! A highly tweakable stereo dynamics processor with noise gate, compressor/expander with external side-chain input, and limiter/clipper. Part of the AUFX series, a collection of simple and powerful audio effect apps."

Now, I have to make a few points about the AUFX series. They are probably my favourite set of FX apps on iOS, or rather they're some of the most excellent FX apps around. I keep finding that I come back to using them again and again. They have great versatility and they're incredibly robust.

So I'm really looking forward to seeing / getting my hands on AUFX:Push. I'm betting that it's going to be awesome, and that it's going to be yet another AUFX app that's going to be one of those that I keep on coming back to again and again.

Let's hope it gets released very soon ...

MODULATRONICATRON X-7000 on Etsy

One more massively expensive but beautiful device, the MODULATRONICATRON X-7000 on Etsy, here are the details.

Yes you heard right! Don't be left in the dust this summer/fall/winter, sitting at home playing with something digital while all the cool kids in town are waxing glitchy and riding cubic waves of analog squarewave synthiness.

Features built in power supply, secured via the miracle of VELCRO, as well as a battery pack big enough to synth through even the most demanding camping/picnical situations. Onboard speaker, audio output jack, and various knobs and switches conspire to broadcast the impression that this picnic synthesist is not to be trifled with. Excellent aleatronic functionality, when and where it's needed; 24 hours a day, every step of the mile. Includes secret sandwich compartment under secret door covered in pathetic technical scrawlings to deter even the most ravenous reader.

GRAV-SYNTH ][ on Etsy, lovely but very pricey ...

Another lovely object on Etsy but with a very big price tag ...

A well-loved accoutrement scavenged by our interns (or so they say) from the wobbly ruins of a lovecraftian pleasure dome, GRAV-SYNTH ][ is ready to handle, nay joyfully respond to, all manner of lascivious gyrations and G-force perturbations (twerking has been mentioned) that may come its way. Soothing color scheme, fine vintage knobbery, battery holder and output jack round out this tasty little unit. (Not recommended as an alternative food source)

3 axis accelerometer drives 3 squarewave synth voices coupled to a variable bandpass filter that's driven by feedback from any of the three axes. Lack of instructions (a revered tradition of the Ottoman Empire) should be plenty to motivate anyone with a penchant with flicking switches, twiddling knobs, and shaking things around. And looking dang good while doing it, if you don't mind our saying so.

CHAOS CILLATOR "de-luxe" Forbidden E.V.P. Explorer Cillation Activator with Safety Indicators and Joystick Interface on Etsy

This is a lovely looking device, but the price is a bit of a put off if you ask me ...

Waves of phase noise break on the exotic and imaginary coastlines of unexplorable seashores as voices call from beyond the abyss. Run a very long extension cord into the dungeon, and listen, listen for voices; barely discernible behind the howling noise and occasional squeals from nowhere. Mismatched oscillators, silicon flip-flops and a jauntily-clad bandpass filter await an effortless enmeshment with human intent via the joystick; and yellowish phase noise lighting comes out the probe, for good looks and interface with anything laying around that may be light sensitive.

Impress friends and amaze enemies with the absolute pinnacle of EVP exploration and Cillation Generation. Say goodbye and point your prow bravely to the abyss, and listen as the abyss howls back, all with a little gentle pressure on the joystick.

Finely appointed in chiseled anodized alumin(i)um, with meters to indicate forays into the danger zone. Volume knob and small speaker thoughtfully included. Runs off 110VAC via an internal DC supply. Output jacks for raw and filtered signal, just the thing for vast archival recordings of the entities encountered along the journey.

Audreio arrives and brings wireless uncompressed audio streaming between iOS devices

It's here! Audreio delivers easy-to-use uncompressed audio streaming between iOS devices, wirelessly!

No cables or audio interface needed. Using your existing router, Audreio streams audio from an Inter-App Audio (IAA) application on one device—or from the built-in mic—to another iOS device. The received audio can then be routed to the speaker or an IAA host.

Audreio’s elegant, straight-forward interface will have you streaming audio in no time. Simply select the iOS device on your local network that you would like to send audio from, and you’re ready to stream. There are no IP addresses to enter and no complicated set-up to deal with.

Features:
  • Easily stream uncompressed audio between iOS devices
  • Broad compatibility - IAA/AudioBus2 apps (via AudioBus’s support for IAA)
  • Simple, elegant interface
  • For a list of IAA compatible apps please visit audre.io/apps

Requires iOS 7 or higher.

Note: Reliable streaming of uncompressed audio over wi-fi depends heavily on your router and network conditions. Audreio provides a simple setting to control the relation between latency and streaming performance.

Audreio costs $4.99 on the app store

R0Verb multi delay-line space machine arrives

R0Verb multi delay-line space machine is here and it looks particularly cool actually.

This audio effect filter is a hybrid between a simple reverb and a very complex delay. R0Verb consists of up to 50 separate delay lines, and puts you in charge of every single delay with controls for volume, pre-delay, feedback & high shelf. It can be used for everything from simple delays to complex spaces, whatever your mix needs. It also has a nice Randomizer if you're feeling lucky!

Features:
  • Up to 50 parallel delays*
  • Every delay has parameters for volume, pre-delay, feedback, delay time & a high shelving filter
  • Randomizer - creates a space with user-defined bounds
  • Multi-select and edit several delay-lines in one gesture
  • Post 3-band EQ
  • IAA and Audiobus2 compatible
  • Comes with a few factory presets for inspiration
  • Load / Save user presets
  • Remember IAA hosts (will automatically load last used settings when a host reconnect)
  • Documentation

* When using a lot of delay-lines this app consumes quite a bit of CPU. If you experience audio glitches and stuttering we recommend reducing the number of active delay-lines. iPad 2 or later is recommended, iPad 4 or later is preferred.

The app costs $3.99 (which is a bargain I think)

misuco pro arrives

microtonal surface controller, osc (Open Sound Control)/MIDI controller with musical scale generator and simple synthesizer.

Experience microtonal tuning in a way that was never available before on a computer. Use the maximum of your touchscreen as sensor for musical performances.

Explore the universe of musical scales and microtonal tunings on the built in dirty synth or on any external synth that you can connect trough wlan and a computer. The MISUCO app has interfaces to common music software such as Max/MSP, Reaktor, puredata, supercollider. You can also control a conventional MIDI keyboard, if you have a computer with a MIDI interface. MISUCO is able to translate arbitrary frequencies into MIDI note number and pitch values.

The MISUCO software can also be used as a versatile touchscreen keyboard and controller and enables a maximum of the available screen for your performance.

Compared to the free version the pro version has the following advantages:
  • no advertisement
  • more preset storage (200 instead of 10)
  • change network configuration
  • network error correction
  • receive config changes by osc (Open Sound Control)
  • ability to save settings and presets, and exchange as xml files in iTunes
  • latest bug fixes and improvements
  • you support the development of further features

What is microtonality?

In music normally we divide one octave in seven to twelve steps. You can see this on a piano, which has a repeating pattern of seven white and five black keys.
One form of microtonal tuning divides one octave in 1200 steps called cents. This system is used to explain fine tunings of instruments.
Another form is to pull the strings of an instrument. Then the note is detuned to some frequency between the scale. This form of playing is essential in classical Indian music but also widely found in many other music playing styles.

How can you experience microtonality with MISUCO?

With the MISUCO software you can play with and experience these ways of microtonality. You can translate microtonality to regular MIDI instruments, using the free software puredata on your wlan equiped computer: MISUCO has a microtonal scale tuner, which lets you tune each note on an octave in cent steps. Then it has a microtonal mode (mm) that blurs the frequency space between the scale and you can play the frequencies between, like pulling a string of an instrument. If you do not like to use any external equipment and software, MISUCO has a simple but powerful built in synthesizer.

Last but not least MISUCO is a browser to the newly founded http://scales.misuco.org online scales archive. With one click on the ?-key you get directed to the page related to the current scale on your MISUCO where you can discuss, share and read about that scale.

Be aware that this app is mainly designed for tablets and running it on a device with smaller screen than 10" requires good eyes and tiny fingers.

This app has been designed with great caution. However, be careful when using it with headphones or amplification equipment. The sound presets can differ significantly in loudness. We can give no warranty for any destroyed equipment or ear damages.

FAQ: I hear no sound:
  • Make sure your phone is not muted and the volume is up
  • Press long, some sound have require some attack time
  • Play higher notes, handheld devices are not capable of playing too low frequencies

I wish you much inspiration, creativity, self development, fun and inner peace with MISUCO.

If you like the project, please support further developments trough our website http://misuco.org
or our merchandising shop at http://misuco.spreadshirt.net/
