Hokusai Audio Editor arrives

Sorry, meant to post this earlier. Hokusai Audio Editor arrives and here are the details:

Hokusai is a multitrack audio editor for iPhone or iPad. Record or import a track, and make it sound the way you want it to: not just trimming the ends, but full cut, copy, paste and delete, and a suite of filters and special effects available.

Edit many tracks side-by-side, mix them together, and export to wave or mp4 format — then transfer them to your computer via USB or Dropbox, or send them to another app on your device.

Hokusai is streamlined to give you a clean, clear view of your tracks. Use the familiar pinch and swipe gestures to zoom right in and fiddle with fine detail, or step back to see the big picture. And just like selecting text in other apps, you can select pieces of audio. Live "scrubbing" means you can hear the sound under your fingertip as you make your adjustments. And you needn't fear a bad edit with our full undo/redo support: as many levels as space allows.

Hokusai comes free with a set of useful tools such as fade in/out, normalise volume levels, reverse time, and basic synthesis. If you need more power, you can upgrade from inside the app to add new tools and effects, including: AudioCopy/AudioPaste, grain synthesis, noise gating, time-stretching, pitch-bending, echo, reverb, modulation (AM & FM), resonance, distortion, grunge, vocal levelling, monster voice, high/low/band-pass/notch-cut filter and more.

Tabletop: all effects are now a buck each!

From the lovely people at Retronyms:

Thanks for making the Tabletop release such a success. In celebration, we're extending the launch promotion – all effects are now a buck each!

Note to early adopters: If you bought effects before this promotion, ping us at contact@retronyms.com or Facebook and we'll hook you up with deals on future devices.

Not seeing the updated prices? Give it a few minutes. It can take Apple's servers some time to update everywhere.

Now that's what I call responding to user feedback!

MiDi-to update

Quite a lot in this update for MiDi-to:

New super easy way to connect MiDi-to to your Mac.
Just create a network on your Mac, connect your iPad to it and then select your computer name from MiDi-to’s settings page. That’s it. No more finding IPs’ and all that mess!

One finger Loop Roll!
Just hold your finger on any of the loop lengths to start loop rolling. Now move your finger around to remix the track on the fly! (We changed the loop length layout to facilitate moving from 32 to 1/32 bars seamlessly). Loop rolling stops when you lift your finger.

If you want to activate an auto loop instead, just press the auto loop button and your loop will go on till you press auto loop again. Manual loop is of course also available.

We also included the first-setup tutorial right inside the app so that you can check it if needed, even without internet connection.

Don’t forget to download the updated MiDi-to preset from our site!

PLEASE NOTE: This version of MiDi-to is compatible with Snow Leopard and Leopard and Serato version 2.2.0. We do not yet support Mac OS X Lion or any newer versions of Serato. When Serato will be working well on Lion we will update MiDi-to if needed.

Reminder: Bhajis & Microbe free

Just another reminder that you can now get the awesome Bhajis Loops and Microbe for free!

If you don't know these applications, they're for the now long abandoned Palm operating system, but if you're interested you should get yourself a Pam Tungsten T3 from eBay or a Palm Tungsten TX for that matter and try these applications out. They're certainly worth the cost of a second hand device.

In fact, even if you don't plan to get the hardware anytime soon I'd advise you to get the software just in case it vanishes at some point.

Salamander Sunrize by iosmusicandyou

Salamander Sunrize by iosmusicandyou

Nice vibe from iOS Music and You, here's what he says:

This one popped into my head when I heard the bass sound on the Sunrizer Synth app; it reminded me of the bass sound on Herbie Hancock's Chameleon. I came up with a similar chord progress and went from there. This one gets pretty far from Herbie - I brought in a serious 80s vibe with the Sunrizer arpeggiator.

This tune goes into the pop realms - I feel like this one needs some vocals. So maybe it's a work in progress; if there's any vocalists out there . . .

I used the Sunrizer Synth, the FunkBox Drum Machine, and GarageBand to put this one together.

Top 10 anyone?

It has been a while (ok, probably only 2 weeks), but in that time a lot can change, and in the last 2 weeks a lot has changed. So, anyone have a new top 10 they want to share?

The Summer's here, what are you holiday projects?

I always have high hopes for recording stuff whilst away and making the best use of different locations, but it doesn't always work out that way! This year I'm hopeful of one trip providing some interesting sounds, but more of that another time.

So what do you have planned for the summer and how do you think mobile tech will help with recording or making it?
