When I first saw this app I saw another user post here on palmsounds, they said"it looks like a couple of high level game developers side project."
After reading this blog post by the devs themselves I can see that that might in fact be a true statement.
When I first saw the app,the very first thing that came to MY mind was, "I wonder if these guys were fighting for the Animoog contract and this was a valiant effort but was ultimately rejected by the Moog heads in charge" (and yes, that is how my internal monologue sounds,I am not just writing this way to sound sophisticated!).
I have a HUGE space in my heart/mind/being carved aside for iOS app developers. I look at apps sometimes as more then the sum of their parts but each individual part used there in.
We are lucky. Simple as that. We are SO lucky in fact, that we tend to take a lot of what we get for our ideveces for granted. We sometimes forget that the millions of apps we chew through and spit out on a daily basis by the handfuls are more then the icon it represents. It represents a human being. The developer. The guys sitting in the office chair for days and hours and months on end,not for their own personal project(well I'm sure it has some personal goal underlying, pride, making a name for ones self..)but to get the product in the hands of users. They do this and then offer these products to us for peanuts. So cheap are these apps that e have even been spoiled by the costs.
Recently I have noticed a few apps that while innovative and beyond anything I could have ever expected to come out before the end of the year, are in fact, a huge sum of money, considering. We are so spoiled in the low cost and disposability of the apps we get offered that when an app comes out and it's price is higher then a burger meal at Fat Burger,we tend to recoil and take a unitive deep breath as if to proclaim shock and horror that a measly developer could even have the audacity to go beyond these "AppStore" standards we have built ourselves into. In reality. If we were to look at these programs on any other platform other then an idevice we would be buying the lot in droves and clawing and scratching our way over each other to snatch up what would seem like "the deal of the century".
My point is,is that while yes,we are lucky bastards that we all are fortunate enough to have enough disposable income to pocket these $500+ devices,we continue to badger and berate hard working "Everyman" when their labor of love and dedication costs more then a value coffee at the corner market.
Next time you step into the voters booth looking at that punch card of a review station we call the AppStore. Take a moment to think about the people behinde the curtain and what they do for you. Think about the lines and lines of code that no mortal man could decipher. Think about the heart and soul of these fine folks and realize for a moment that they are not our slaves. They can not and most definitively WILL NOT be able,no matter how hard they try,be able to please everyone's idea of what makes a great and usefull piece of kit. What we can do though is treat them like the equals they are. Respectfully request change and then,if all else fails...burn down their houses. :)
To all the hard working developers and coders out there, you guys are the true rockstars of this "scene" and you do have like minded individuals out there that do see eye to eye with your intended goal. Keep on doing what you do and move this future along. You are the ones creating it. I'm just here for the ride. I've locked my buckle. Ready for take off. See you on the other side.
