It doesn't really surprise me, the stock functionality is better so there is more to do with it before getting bored. Also, it costs more, so people are a little slower to risk blowing it up.
That being said, I think the drum mods are essential, if I get 1 I'm definentily doing them, glad to know they marked the points for me!
