So I finally got myself an Apple TV, for a variety of reasons which I won't bore you with. This probably means that Apple will bring out a new version in a few days of course.
Anyway, I started to have a look around for good AirPlay enabled apps and found way too many than I can get my head around, so I thought that the simplest thing to do would be to ask you all for your suggestions for your favourite AirPlay apps. 1960's Stylophone Demonstration video
Just a short demonstration of a 1960's Stylophone using the camera audio and then line out audio. These early models have no volume control and a vibrato that sounds more akin to pulse width modulation. Plus they are much bassier via line out than the speaker due to a passive low pass filter over the output.

I only just found out about this site / app and it looks pretty awesome. Here's a bit of the description of the app (from the site), but the whole site is worth a look as they're doing some interesting things.
Mosaik is an iOS App for making Auto-BPM-synced / time-warped loops. All you have to do is import your samples or songs. The App searches the audio for beat information. With the help of this information Mosaik is able to match the audio to any BPM.
And it also incorporates a high quality grain-based time-stretching engine. This means that you can now match any audio to your songs on your iOS device. Exactly like that prominent audio software you are thinking about right now ;-)

After many hour, days, and weeks of recording and editing, Volterock and undocument asked many volunteers to join them in the studio for a special project. Participants were asked to yell as if they were dying, falling, attacking/charging into battle, punching, being punched, singing like a metal band, growling, shrieking, and gasping. The result is a harzardous wail of humanity cut into 153 individual sounds. A special thanks goes out to everyone involved! Please support them!

So here's how to get some Zero Input goodness going
I used AUFX:Dub into AUFX:Space recorded into AudioShare.
Mute in, max feedback, 5-20ms delaytime, max tape noise, pingpong 30%ish, play on stereo detune. Lo cut 50hz, hi cut 5000-8000 hz.. No warble.
It does take some tweaking but you can get some great results. I certainly enjoyed it.

This idea developed into a very 90's house track. First track using the awesome iOS DAW Caustic 3. I'm still amazed at how many different types of sound engines are available to you in this one app.
I ended up using 10 machines: Beatbox (x2), FM Synth, Bassline, Pad Synth (x2), Organ, Subsynth, Modular, and 8Bit Synth. I mostly used presets which is unusual for me because I usually like to create my sounds from scratch. I did a little tweaking on things here and there.

If you're not using dropbox then it's something you should to check out as loads of apps are now using it as a default for online storage and for a variety of other purposes too, and it works quite well in my view. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea and most mobile musicians are iOS users, but I'm interested to know if anyone is making Android music (and I know that there are people doing it) and if you are how you find it has moved on.

Trigger song #11 RPM Feb Challenge by MariaCalfa-DePaul
I decided that since I had a spare day for the RPM Challenge (as I met it yesterday) I would write a bonus track. I used my Korg microsampler that I had prepared in advance with samples that I made from: Korg Wavedrum Mini as well as synths from my iPhone: Magellan, animoog Bs-16i and my voice. I recorded the tracks via my Apogee Jam into my iPad mini2 via the usb to lightning adaptor into Auria.

Four Chords (Guitarism_Caustic 3 - country disco) by akvalley
Found out that Apptronica is having a Four Chords contest. I'm throwing this entry to the ring for the others entrants to incorporate and remix. I recorded eight guitar chords out of Guitarism into AudioShare as one sample. Then FTP'd the sample into Caustic 3. The eight chords are an upstroke and a downstroke of each of these chords determined by the contest rules - C Major, G Major, A minor, and F Major. I usually mix acoustic and electronic drums so you are hearing the 808, 909, and a tight acoustic kit. This is a 11 track mix with Guitar, 808, 909, Tight Kit, Arp, Mallets, Synth lead, 8Bit lead 1, 8Bit lead 2, vocoder using the guitar as the modulator, bass.

If there's something you don't like about an app then give constructive critiscm and don't just leave a bad review. Remember that developers can't respond to reviews on the app store so it's much better if you can contact them directly and explain what's wrong.
QOTD: What are the biggest limitations you find with iOS music making?
Let's face it, whilst the limitations are reducing all the time there are still limitations to what you can do with a mobile device. What do you think are the biggest limitations, and what do you do to overcome them? Perhaps more importantly, do you think that the limitations you find or experience actually help you in the process of making music, and in what ways?
