PocketGuitar 1.2.1

PocketGuitar has been updated to version 1.2.1.

This appears to be mostly a bug fix release, but also adds the option to pull off to an open string.

SunVox 1.1

I spent some time yesterday using SunVox and working with the sampler, filter, flanger and LFO synths. I am amazed at just how flexible Sunvox is and how easy it is to create complex sound generation networks (if that's the right way to describe it).

If you haven't had a chance to give SunVox a go as yet I'd strongly recommend it as an excellent platform.

Sniff Jazzbox first look

I had a play with this app for the first time today. I certainly is different. It basically takes the wifi networks around you and makes music from them. Obviously, the kind of music it outputs is a little unusual to say the least, but it is interesting. I think it would be more fun if you used it while wandering around a city (as in the video) rather than being static somewhere.

Having said that it does make for interesting listening.

The trouble goes on

Seems like there's still trouble between Noise IO and Cosmovox developers from the sounds of the comment exchange on my post of yesterday.

I really hope that these guys can come to some kind of understanding over this issue.

Pacemaker DJ device still going strong

I got an email from Pacemaker DJ today. I'm glad to see that Pacemaker is still doing well and seems well loved by all:
Our handy little dj system, the slick music device known as Pacemaker, has been doing the rounds at various award shows lately. On October 23, Pacemaker was named Most Innovative New DJ Product at DJ Mag's annual Tech Awards.

Also, we got a telex from Frankfurt recently. It turns out Pacemaker has won the gold category of Der Designpreis, the official design award of The Federal Republic of Germany. Yay!

There's trouble ...

It appears that Noise IO infringed a patent from the author of Cosmovox which means that Noise will no longer be able to map pitch scales to the accelerometer and this feature is going to be removed in version 1.1.3, which is a shame.

This is s very unusual app that allows you to take the names of wifi networks and change them into music. If you listen to the music on the video it is actually quite melodic.

ZooZBeat for iPhone: First look

This morning I had a chance to use ZooZBeat this morning. Obviously it is a lot like the lite version, but the big differences are that you can save tracks, and there are a bunch of additional instruments on the starting tracks, all of which sound very good.

This is great app for knocking up a quick tune and saving it for later, and as CDM points out it is a great place to start for beginners.

What I'm looking forward to now is the Pro version, which, according to the ZoozBeat site is going to have the following features:

- Synchronized group play
- Song sharing
- Professional sequencing capabilities.

Who says mobile music tools aren't mainstream then? Jools Holland is fairly mainstream isn't he? I quite like the song too.

ZooZBeat Lite for iPhone: First look

I played with ZooZBeat Lite this morning. It was a wet and horrible morning when all the trains were late delayed or cancelled, and yet this little app really made me smile.

It is simple, fun, and absolutely immediate. I even recommended it to a 'non-musical' friend of mine who I knew would love playing with it. I've just noticed that the full app is on the app store now, so I'm going to give that a go in the morning.

Noise IO version 1.1.2 and the 'Across the Kaos Bank'

I had a bit of time to try out the new features in Noise IO this morning as my train was late, and I was really impressed. I'm hoping to be able to post some more stuff on this app soon as I think it deserves a lot more attention. Anyway, here's some more information about the latest release:

NEW IN VERSION 1.1.2

+ Kaos-style behaviour (map pitch scales to the Control Surface or to Accelerometer)
+ New parameter: pitch scale selector (in FX& Seq Tab, under the panning control)
+ New preset bank: "Across the Kaos"
+ Envelope decay now available for mapping and modulation
+ Sequencer patterns can now be of different length
+ Rotate screen 180 degrees
+ Shake feature in Manage Presets and sequencers
+ Lots of small fixes, improved stability

SynthPond version 2

synthPond 2.0 teaser from zach on Vimeo.

Version 2 of SynthPond includes orbiting notes, which look really amazing. I like the thought that some of these new features are not for beginners, but are instead for experienced users. It isn't that I think that beginners should be excluded, not at all.
