Is USB audio coming in iOS5?

I have heard that the CCK is working on the iPhone 4 under the current iOS5 beta. Apparently the SD Card reader isn't working, but the USB adapter does.

This would be great news for audio on the iPhone.

Has anyone else had a chance to try this?

Thanks to the person who informed me of this. It's great news.

It works exactly like with iOS 4.

Class-compliant USB sound cards (through a powered USB hub), connected with the Camera Connection Kit. One stereo output only.

So this means MIDI too?? Right?!??!

**Fingers crossed**

Just tested USB audio interface with my iPhone4, iOS5 beta3 and it works here too. Will try with a USB MIDI Keyboard tomorrow But I guess it should also work.

Felt very excited when I connected my iPad CCK to my iPhone4 and didn't see 'not supported' alert appeared..... great!

shame about the 1 stereo output only, it really is the major gripe with most DJ apps...would be nice to see this change in the future perhaps, although I doubt it'll be anytime soon.

Oooh amazing! Apple will maybe, maybe let us use its hardware like we should've been able to since the beginning.

Maybe

Well, you could plug a MIDI compliant keyboard or audio interface into your Android to make mobile music, if you're that bummed out about it. Oh, wait... :)

Fabulous. We can choose between an OS that won't do what we need and one which can't. Progress!

You guys truly believe its only between IOS and Android? You are so short sighted you are forgetting Windows and OSX.

You are living in the IOS dreamworld, where access is given by tiny drops.

@Anon 2 - Of course there is Windows and OSX, but this is a blog about mobile devices and mobile music making, not Win/OSX music making.

@palm sounds

What is the difference between the ipad and a modbook or a motion computing tablet? They are both mobile, have both 6+ hours of battery.

Do you require your device to have a subpar OS to classify it as mobile? UMPC's and netbooks are mobile too you know? The macbook air is very mobile too. What makes them non-mobile for you?

Well of course you can say that laptops are mobile, and they are. For that matter a mac mini is quite easy to carry around.

Where would you like to draw the line.

As far as 'being mobile' the classification is very wide that's true. However, Palm Sounds started off talking about mobile devices being used for music making, and at the time that was predominantly PDAs, then smartphones etc.

Since then it has focussed on those sorts of devices.

If what you are looking for is something wider then I'm sorry, but you're unlikely to find it here.

If your view of iOS and Android is that they are simply subpar, then I have to ask why you're reading this?

The latest beta (7) has again disabled the use of the CCK for USB audio on the iPhone. It's back to square one.

@Anon

Nooooo, say it isn't so! I hope Apple brings it back!
