Nice to see Pixelh8 get back to doing some music again.

Reminder: TuringFest coming soon.

Just a reminder about TuringFest which seems quite interesting, apart from the fact that the event is also hosting MHD Scotland.

If you're going to be up there for the MHD then it's worth checking out the other stuff going on as well.

Noises on your iPhone: Part 4 - Bebot - Robot Synth

Let's face it, bebot was, and still is a great app for making noises, and what's more you can do quite a lot more with it too.

It's a shame that it hasn't been updated for quite a long time now, but I guess that everything has a lifespan and people need to move on.

Even so, it's good to play with it still.

Palm OS 5 app of the day: Wave Edit Pro

A very late Palm OS app that was an extremely versatile audio file editor. I always hoped it would evolve into a multi-track but that didn't happen sadly. In fact, there was never a Palm multi-track editor although a few people talked about making one at various points.

Introducing... Samplodica! (or ...how to play)

I know this is one of the apps that I missed in my break from Jan to May, so I thought I should post up this video of it.

Another dropbox link

If you're not using dropbox then it's something you might want to check out as more and more apps are now using it as a default for online storage, and it works quite well in my view.

You can get one by clicking this link, and what's more you'll get an extra 500mb (and so will I)!

Palm OS 4 App of the day: Music Studio

Music studio for Palm was a really interesting application because it was able to use the Yamaha GM chip in the clie series PDAs but also worked with the standard tone output of Palm OS devices. Effectively it was a little notation package. Not as flexible as miniMusic's NotePad, but still handy.

Caustic announces modular for Android and maybe iOS iPad too!

This is great news from the maker of Caustic for Android. Not only could this modular be great addition into your Caustic 2 rack for Android, but as a stand alone iPad app it could be good too. Certainly one to watch.

Thanks to Discchord for getting to this story first.

Coming Soon: Symphonix Evolution 1.95

New stuff on the way to Symphonix Evolution. Here's what Vinclaro have announced so far:
  • Map functions to MIDI controllers so that external hardware or MIDI apps can control the software. For example using a MIDI controller keyboard to change track presets or control the transport functions
  • Significant performance improvements and improved stability
  • Improved user interface for transport controls and more intuitive design of other features such as Controller input
  • Access to low-level synthesizer parameters (this is one of our favorites and will be covered in this blog soon)
  • More powerful selection tools for modifying notes and manipulating the song

Palm OS 5 App of the day: BeatPad

I still think that this is a great piece of software for the Palm. I would have liked to see it get ported over to iOS, but I don't think that'll happen now. It has a great interface which packs loads of control into just 2 screens.

So if you have an old Palm OS device then you should seriously consider trying this out. You can get it from miniMusic.

I've posted about this before, but I'm going to keep it alive for a while longer before giving up on it.

If you want recording tips try Tape Op, new iOS app now in beta test

Tape Op brings itself to iOS in this new beta app, Here's the description:

Tape Op is about learning how to make great recordings with whatever tools you have access to. Unlike most recording magazines, Tape Op is not focused on reviewing equipment. Lots of mags already do a great job on that front. Instead, Tape Op interviews engineers, producers and musicians who are making great recordings. We sit down and talk with them at length and then run long, in- depth interviews. The reader becomes, in essence, the “tape op” hanging out in the studio and learning the trade from the seasoned vets working in the studio. Ultimately, we strive to put education and creativity above all else.

Tape Op is currently the largest circulated music recording magazine in the world.
