I hear that the new Boss Micro BR 8-track is now shipping. In the UK it's priced at £199 which isn't a bad price. I can't decide between this and the Tascam dp-008 though.
Having said that I really don't need a device like this at all, but that just doesn't stop me from waiting them!

I'm still mad tempted by the zoom r8,their kicking around for the same kinda pricemark!!
After much research, it will be the Tascam that I'm getting- simply because of the more tactile control surface (it has knobs!) and that Tascam have been making portastudios since well, the first portastudio!
Seriously though, if you do the research, most people dislike the Boss for being fiddly and menu- driven. You want to make music, not program gizmos. An interface shouldn't get in the way of creativity.
DP008 is almost perfect, all it needs is bar/beat markers and seamless repeat, all the other features are great, eq is very good and frequency can be set per track, reverb is good, sound quality and editing are great, very easy and quick to use. Boss on the other hand is fiddly and tiresome to use.
Take it from me. I have the Boss Micro BR, and the Tascam DP-008, and the Tascam is much less frustrating to use (for exactly the reasons Tom stated).
