70% of iPad 2 buyers were new

I've seen this stat around the place quite a lot since the iPad 2 launch and it got me thinking about what it means. My view is that this can only be a good thing for developers as lots of new users get their iPads and start to think about what creative things they can do with their new toys.

Good news for developers, good news for everyone.

What's more is that among the remaining 30%, I'm certain most have sold or gifted their old iPads to first-time iPad owners.

The only possible downside of this news for iPad owners is that the speed at which iPad 2 sells will largely dictate the length of time before some apps discontinue support for iPad 1. Most have predicted this won't occur until the launch of iPad 3, but faster than predicted sales could make iPad 2/iPhone 5 exclusives viable sooner.
