Fairlight 'Player' App changes

Thought I'd post on what's changed in the original Fairlight app:

FUNCTIONAL CHANGES
  • Player App without Pro upgrade can now:
  • edit loop settings of Fairlight voices
  • edit the default instrument (as intended - this was a bug)
  • Improvement in Page R note drawing speed
  • Some minor improvements to MIDI status display
  • New option to disable sleeping
  • Extra, more obvious, "All voices" button on Page 2
  • "Player" added to the icon
  • (Pro only) Able to export personal voices as .VCX (CMI extended) voice files
  • (Pro only) Able to import .VC and .VCX CMI voice files
Again, not sure how this impacts the in-app upgrade if you bought it.

$10.00 and you can't save or export.

For only $40.00 bucks more you can.

RIP OFF

This is to make us feel better? To stimulate sales??

Train wreck of a release... textbook case of how not to roll.

These devs are clowns.I hope they get one-starred to death. Sab-Suckers!

They did bungle this a bit, it's true, but in all fairness Fairlight has responded to some user issues in a timely manner and should be commended for that.

The made it into two separate apps on order to avoid vein labeled "misleading" with an in app purchase for $39.99 from the player app to step up to Pro, this equaling the total cost of the Pro version.

Also, added editable sounds and enable looping, so now, you have a nice Fairlight sound module on your iPad via Core MIDI for $10, which is pretty cool.

Personally, I think this is a good update regardless of what you think of the Pro version price. To the complaints about exporting or copy paste, did Fairlight male those claims? If the answer is no, then it's not fair to blame them.

"in order to avoid being"... lousy iPhone! :)

I agree w/ robert.

It's one thing to trash a dev when their service is bad or they're trying to misrepresent their product, it's another thing to trash a dev when you think their business plan is flawed.

The former is worthy of criticism, the latter... well, if you're right they will pay the price for their mistake in the marketplace, isn't that enough punishment?

I said this was a bad idea. I've been vindicated!

I think people who complain have probably never purchased any software above 10$.

In reality great software costs more than that. Its part of the reason why we didn't see big applications like Cubase, Live or Photoshop making the jump to IOS. Those guys sell their software for 500$-1000$ and more, do you think they would simply start selling the same thing for 20$ on IOS?

I think the same apply for guys like Fruityloops, Renoise or Reaper who sells their software for 50$-200$

Sure 40$ is a lot for an IOS app, but how much is a real Fairlight? And have you seem the price of the GPS apps from TomTom? Consider yourself lucky they didn't do a Fairlight VST that they could easily sell for 400$ instead :)

Too many developer "friends" leaving feedback, trying to sway the fact this is a rip off app.

If you pay $10.00 for an app, you should at least be able to save etc.

To sell a crippled app and expect another $40.00 to do basic things like saving, shows this is nothing but a money grab. Sell something that needs a $40.00 fix to work as it should.

Johnny, like it or not, the Fairlight app really is nothing more than a gimmick. Of course in it's time, the Fairlight was state of the art, but that was over 30 years ago (and the 24 track reel to reel et al!)

I'm not complaining because I haven't bought the software, but I did buy Emagic Logic Audio, which really IS an extremely good value for money tool. At the time, that cost me way over £450!

The Fairlight app really shows up what an utter bargain Nanostudio is, and I'm afraid one copy of Nanostudio is worth 10 copies of the Fairlight app!

@Tom
"the Fairlight app really is nothing more than a gimmick"

I totally agree with you. Its an app made only for the people who have been lusting over the Fairlight because they could never afford one. Those people won't mind paying the full price just to be able to touch a part of history (or so they believe :)

For everyone else (including me), its just a simulation of a 30 years old sampler, which has been beat in features by modern samplers.

Go Nanostudio!
