BeatShuffler for iPad arrives

A new app from Big Robot Studios and it looks like it's going to be a great addition to your beat tools. Here's the app's description:

25% OFF Introductory price, until the new version with AudioCopy is released.

Beatshuffler is a music app that slices loops and allows you to trigger those slices, always on time. It is a great beat sketching tool where almost everything sounds interesting, since the slice triggering always falls on the beat. At its core, it is inspired by the mlrv app, for the Monome and other grid devices.

It features:
  • 6 tracks for loops.
  • Ability to import WAV and MP3 files.
  • iOS File Sharing import for exchanging files with the app.
  • A mixer.
  • A master channel with effects.
  • A separate channel for each of the tracks, with effects.
  • Available effects: Delay and Low Pass Filter.
Among the upcoming features are Audio Clipboard support, to import loops from other apps and an expanded loop library.

The app's launch price is $2.99.

@rafael_ollero ... thanks for the youtube link ... it showed me that I may not want to buy this app ... either the demo is cutting the app short or it's just not what I was expecting.

Needs more work. The devs should have beta tested it more.

Press "settings" to open another page to open a file? No! Press "open file"! More buttons in the main window please. This is actually my complaint about Meteor- which does the same thing. You have to open two windows to do one action- wrong!

Once you get a loop going, there is no button to turn it off (apart from the mixer).

On the FX, you hit OFF to turn the effect ON and vice versa! very confusing.

The interface is slow on my iPad 1.

The rotary buttons on the FX are difficult to use because as soon as you try to rotate to the right or left, the screen where the knobs are placed, moves.

The gui is ugly. It looks like some kind of Linux nighmare.

Needs to emulate some of the time effects in Star6.

Apart from that, Fun and a good effort so far! I look forward to seeing where this one goes. :)

Thanks for the link but the video doesn't really show me anything. Tom has provided enough info for me not to bother with this. It sounds like it could be good but it looks like it's gonna take some time. I'll wait and see.

@Tom_TM
Hey Tom_TM, this is the author of the app. Thanks for the detailed comments, I'm taking notes :)
- About turning off a loop, set its mode to either "SLICE" or "SHOT" and it won't keep looping.
- About the FX button, yep, I'll look into that

I'll post a longer video some time soon to demo more of the features and capabilities.
Cheers,

Hector

The same dev has written 'Sound Cells' which I never use because for some reason you have to press the buttons many times, as it won't register it. Very frustrating and because of that I never use it. The scales also have silly names so, as a non musician, it makes it impossible to know what will fit with them.

I don't do the video, is from the developer, i found on his twitter.
