It's my nipper's birthday today and he's got an iPod Touch 4g. There's just something awesome about having new gear, isn't there!
So my two kids are now fully engrossed in some music making on the iPod and my iPhone. Yesterday they had a lesson in the use of the 303, 808 and 909 in popular music, courtesy of youtube, followed by a brief history of hip-hop and electronic music :o)
Heh heh. We looked at How Afrika Bambaataa used Trans-Europe Express on Planet Rock. Cool to see two pre-teens nodding along to a gorgeous hip-hop rhythm. Made me want to do the snake, if it wasn't for my bad back and larger than the 80's belly :o)
Teach them Young! Born in the early 70’s in Harlem NY. Grew up in Bronx and Queens NY. I caught the hip hop rapture at 7 years old. Started DJ'n at 10-11 years old. Blending hip hop beats with early R&B music was my thing. My homeboy who owned the turntables used to tell me that I had an ear for picking songs to blend together way back then. I guess Blending, Mixing Music is what led me to Making Hip Hop Beats and Sampling Music. long Live True Hip Hop. It's deeper than RAP.
Have to say, all props to Apple for letting you put your apps on as many devices as you own. Instant awesome pocket studio courtesy of my previous spending habits!
