A free app that requires up to 35$ of in-app purchases to unlock all its functionnality like access to the ipod library?.. ooooh the Fairlight haters will be all over this one!!

NOT! :)

...oh and I also can't wait to see the legions of people, including Apple, who lambasted Audanika for asking users money if they want to access a core function of IOS...

In app Purchase suck!

Agreed. The DJ apps seem to be nearly aligned now with offering a free version which allows you to play with a couple of demo tracks on the app - to make sure you understand what the app does, how it works and whether it meets your requirements. Then a paid app if you want to spend the cash and use it fully. In-App purchase seems a little odd in this case.

That said though, I think in-app purchase for big value additions in functionality (such as Looping or more Effects with the DJ apps) is still valid (albeit perhaps unpopular!).

I expect the next wave of updates (over the coming year) from several DJ apps will probably be introducing USB MIDI Controller capability - if they charge for this, they'll probably fall into the same critical arena as Audanika though.
