CM on Android as a viable music platform

This is a little out of date I know, but I was reading this the other day I thought it was worth a quick post. I'm glad to see a publication like CM taking a look at Android and asking this question. They talked to Peter Kirn about it as well, but came back to the usual issue that Android comes up against. Latency. It is always the same thing. I don't know if it is the OS or the device manufacturers.

I hope that one day it'll get sorted and Android will start to really gain ground as a mobile music platform.

re: fault - a little of both.

I think google publishes the specs for hardware compatability which aren't stringent enough in the latency department. And manufacturers don't go out of their way to use quality parts and go beyond minimal requirements.

The former issue is understandable because, let's face it, this is a very small slice of the market and not worth excluding cheap, low-cost devices that represent a sizable slice of the market share.

Things are slowly moving in a good direction though, requirements for each version of android seem to require lower and lower latency, although it's still not there yet. Has anyone had any experience with latency on Xoom tablets running Honeycomb?

Hopefully some of the new gaming centric devices will push the high-end performance specs a bit.

There may be other issues that I am not familiar with... so if any devs want to add anything...
