As long as the FX chains are good, then there is no problem. Some of those most creative an interesting work in past years came from the most mundane of sound sources. Take the BBC Radiophonic Workshop for example. Delia Derbyshire used an old lampshade for the majority of her source tones.
@tom: perhaps, but even the most mundane physical objects are orders of magnitude more flexible interesting than stock midi sounds. Anyway, I'll wait and see... effects can certainly help.
