That 'song of the week' idea

I read the debate over this idea with a great deal of interest. I really like the idea of a song of the week, but I also think that weekly is just too frequent. As for the whole issue of whether or not we'll be able to decide whether it's a good use of the app in question or if it'll come down to liking the genre or style or not, all I can suggest is that we can give it a try and see how it goes. I'm going to suggest that we do this either monthly or at most fortnightly.

So, what do you think? Shall we give it a try?

What about a collaborative approach too? Sharing a dropbox of sounds, agreeing on a rough bpm / key and then passing the track from one to another to produce a Palmsounds tune? There's enough talent and gear following this blog to make it something quite interesting.

I say let's do it, but we need to think of a way not to make it genre wars, I am sure there are plenty of people who don't like what I make and listen to, but I think the point is, production quality with mobile devices right?

@Dj Hombre:

I like your idea better than the one I had, and put forward on the other thread.
I would be happy to join in, and it would actually suit me better because I'm good at certain things, and not so good at others. Also, because I've got quite a lot of freetime at the moment.

If you leave this as a "song contest" there's always going to be arguments around the quality/validity of the music.

Why not put the emphasis on the techniques used to make the song. {notice that I didn't say "produce"...:) }

No matter what music we are into and why we are making it, we all face the same challenges of trying to pull something coherent together from a group of disparate Apps.

I'd certainly be interested in hearing the techniques used by others to deal with continuity of creative flow and getting the product of different Apps to sit in context.

....and if the music happened to be good, that would be great too!

I think it's a great idea! While my music is instrumental, it is more song-structured but I think that something like this would give us all a nice structured way to produce new music.

Oh, and I agree that weekly wouldn't make much sense but every two weeks or monthly would be much better.

Cool!

Imo its a great idea. I don't want to take your ideas to far and tangent them but maybe the idea of just posting peoples tracks and how/what went into making them, then maybe a pick of the best of the week or month etc. afterall this is very similar to the current palm sound format.
