gee, how much i hate the word producer, everybody calls himself that now, its so stupid, like the bands just stand in line in front of the bedroom-door...
There are different kinds of producers. I could say sitting behind a mixing desk while the drummers and singer and guitarist do the work is not exactly being a producer and you could do that in the bedroom as well lol
I mean no disrespect to those that work the mixing desk at all :)
Anonymous it would be better to check the article when its out then sound off :)
While I agree that there are many kinds of producers, I would say that the term has been bastardized for all infinity, everyone things they are a producer or Dj, when in reality there are very few that can actually perform such arts.
I would like to ask, why do we need a ios magazine about production in the first place? And what are these ups and downs?
There are very few actual producers, most people who use apps just do that stuff at home and don't release records IMO.
I say that there is a difference between a bands producer, an electronica producer and a musician. Those that agent m speaks of sound like the studio producers that will produce the mix for a bands track.
That's one kind of producer and as respectable as say a trance producer, it's a job, a duty that has to be done by someone who knows wtf they are doing.
And if agent m says he can do that kind of thing in his bedroom, ok, lol, I hope he has a big bedroom.
So how and when do we get to see this curious article?
Hello. My name is Mattias, and i am the Editor in chief of the iOS Producer magazine. I don't really see what's wrong with the name of the magazine. I have been making music since back in 1987 and my first studio i started with the act Antiloop back in the early 1990's. I have released between 50-100 tracks, and the only thing i can call myself is a producer. I am not a singer songwriter, i am not a musician and i am not a writer. What i do is create my music, mix it, master it and therefore the closest to what i am is a producer. I am not alone. I know loads of producers over here in sweden. David West, Alexi Delano, Kari Lekebusch and a lot of the people in the scene over here and they are people like you or me, and they are producers. And if someone would like to call themselves a producer its fine with me, even if they are doing stuff bad because what they are doing is producing something.
THe name was also chosen because "MusicMakingOnAppleDevices" and "ImUsingIosForMusicMakingBecauseBuildingAHomeStudioCostTooMuchMoneyAndICantAffordIt" was taken. No seriously. We had a few names, and the mag actually started out as a creativity mag for the iPad. Photography, painting, music etc, but since we are up at around 150 pages regarding music making, we decided to go just for music making, also going for a name such as "PEEMP!" or "[E]LEKTROHZ" or something else arty-farty would not benefit the magazine. It would make it harder for people to figure out what the magazine was about.
What is the point of any magazine? Is it to read, have fun and maybe learn something? This magazine is about that, and since alot of high profile music magazines have started covering the platform (Future Music, Computer Music) etc, its not a bad decision to do this for fans of music making on the platform. I have put around 300-400 hours into this by now in my own free time, the same goes for the rest of the staff. It has been quite a project and reminds me of when i worked in the gaming industry for Dice, interplay etc. We do it until we're finished and thats it. So, whats the point you might ask? Well, one point is to spread information in one single forum, in a magazine that is focused on one thing with people that care about the platform. Obviously you guys care about the platform since you are here reading on Palm Sounds and i am stoked to show you what we've got. You are most probably set on NOT liking the magazine due to the vibe of your posts, and i cant do anything about that, but hopefully you will like what we have done.
That article is about Freematiks latest album that was made with the ipad. There was some problems along the way, such as how to connect all his UAD gear, Mic Preamps etc to the ipad. The article is his story about how it went so far. So, the ups and downs reflects all the positive and negative situations one might come up to when trying to do something on a device such as the iPad.
I think i talk for the whole staff when i say that we are doing something that makes us proud and is covering an interest that we all share. Music Making on iOS devices, and hopefully you will give it a chance when its released.
Mattias, ignore the trolls. There seems to be more of them on this blog than ever before. Hopefully Ashley will move commenting to Disqus to keep the trolls at bay.
@matthias: it's going to be an e-magazine, right? Not the thing with the dead trees?
moving to disqus will take the charm out of this blog, im not going to post under my real name, and a lot of other ppl who's opinion im interested in won't, too.
What a load of BS, the cover of the magazine looks ugly, who would buy it, then some so called Dj tries to Diss non electronica producers, then the editor weeps and gives his life story and references to lots of u heard of producers.
Who needs this crap? There are lots of magazines already , and who does this matties think he is telling us how to produce?
Considering he spent like thousands of hours on this and "produces" such an ugly looking cover, I question wether he is happy with the results himself.
Otherwise why the social media strip tease
Can we just review apps here not blag-azines?
And I don't want any more secret agent m's trying to break my door down either, Lol
lol, thx for the link first i saw the photo of a guy in a wifebeater with a bottle of bozze, then the tracklist - 1st track im a boss i didnt have the nerve to listen to anything, was faster out there then you can say troll
"Sure looks like a redneck trying so sound all gangsta lol"
I really question the intelligence of some Anons on this blog sometime. Yeah. Most likely a "redneck", especially as he's a 'redneck' who wears a t-shirt donning a pic in memory of a black guy called Nate Dogg who died recently, on the front. :?
And lala... Do you not like to swig alcohol from a bottle once in a while? You're from Germany? I thought you krauts liked a schnapps now and then??!
And what's wrong with the cover? If you think you're so cool- design your own fecking magazine!! ;)
Good luck with the magazine! I feel that a number of 'contributors' here have missed the point that you're a person who, just like them, has a passion for making music on iOS rather than some big publishing corporation thinking there's a bit of money to be made with some extra iOS coverage.
Hehe. Well, what you saw in the picture is not the cover. That is the heading image for an article. Thanks for the support we get and we will do our best to deliver something you will like.

To the trolls: go back to Engadget, boys.

Most trolls here are quite lazy. Hardly anything insightful behind their troll stance.

What a bunch of pussies talking, all of you
Some guy wants to publish a magazine, let him, it won't sell as it has redneck hiphop in it but at least he is trying to do something
If it shows people actually making some semblance of music with apps, cool, better than just talking about apps.
I just hope he chooses better layouts
Keep working hard Mattias and ignore the haters. I'm looking forward to the mag!
I don't get why people have to post such negative comments. Sure, everyone can have their opinion, but how we express them is important.
And as for the word producer, what's the problem? It is just a word after all. Should we have a problem with the word musician as well?
I don't get it
