iPhone App Directory

Ok, this 'cleaning' thing might be a problem then

Thanks to Will for emailing this to me, and Audanika for posting it on their blog too. This post is all about the issues around iCloud and apps that store data, and it could be much worse for music apps as the data they store can be quite a lot larger than for other types of apps.

I'd really like to hear from developers about their views on this and how it might impact audio and music apps.

Although harder to code, AAC files instead of wav would probably be the way to go.

Tom are you sure you comment on the right article? Your comment sounds like a complete non-sequitir.

All apps which access the Music library in order to play tracks (whether they're DJ apps or otherwise), need to cache the track locally in the app documents area (I think). As such, if you're playing a lot of different tracks in your DJ app, then your cache gets larger. In theory this should get cleared out every now & again when you sync, but I'm not sure. I was sorry of hoping that the ability to delete the 'app documents' in the Settings pages would do this, but again, I'm not convinced.

Perhaps if you "thought differently", you'd understand where I was coming from? ;)

There is a tendency for music devs to shy away from compressed files such as Apple's propriety format AAC, and use WAV instead (very Microsoft). I assume it's because many devs are from a Windows background, so perhaps that's not surprising? But using WAV on a mobile OS leads to bloatware- which I assume is what Apple dislikes? Personally I don't blame them (Apple) for doing this. It seems the right way to go forward. And like I keep saying, iOS5 is a phone OS, not a PC OS. If you want security, buy a PC, or a Mac. There are plenty of small options to choose from!

Interesting article, if a little paranoid (as well as sensationalist). We shall see. We're still at 5.0. I'm sure upgrades will follow. They have done so far. Filtering the cache allowing certain documents to be trashed, others saved perhaps? I dunno. We'll have to wait and see. :)

@tom: nah, wav is fine, everything plays wav ...
and i wouldnt like a master made out of compressed steams.
I dont care about the filesizes. i also dont care if i have the same sample saved in 5 apps...

Sorry Tom, still a non-sequitir, but I guess the problem is on your head LOL
