iOS5 Features that could be used in music: 1 - Notification Centre

It's only been a few days since I moved my iPhone 4 to iOS5, and I'm getting used to the new features in the OS. One that I've really liked is the notification centre, and it made me wonder how that could work for music apps.

The idea I had stems from my flitting from one app to another and never really finishing off a piece of music properly. So I wondered if music apps could start sending you reminders about the projects you've got which aren't finished and periodically remind you to work on them? I suppose that could actually get annoying after a while, but the odd reminder might be handy. Something like this:

"You haven't worked on X track for Y days" might be handy just to make me feel guilty if nothing else!

I know with the new reminders app, you can set it to remind you to do something when you leave a location or get somewhere, might be useful for that kind of thing.

I'm sure the pull down menu (containing messages and iCal dates could also be utilised in some way or another?

Then there's Siri.....

Siri, go offline...
"I'm sorry, Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that."

That pull down menu is really annoying. It just keeps popping up when you play with apps like Mugician.

Astrid, the todo/tasks manager for Android, has had features like this for quite a while. Its reminders escalate from polite to pushy in a way that's frustratingly effective. Additionally, it has a feature where under certain circumstances reminders cannot be cleared from the notifications bar until a task is completed.

Obviously that last bit wouldn't have been practical with the old-style, blue bubble iOS notifications, but maybe now that iOS 5 is out we'll see similar functionality on apps for that platform. (And I have to say that having been an iOS+Android user for a while, I'm feeling pretty vindicated getting basically all of the iOS 5 features (minus Siri) on my iPad, Ice Cream Sandwich on my Nexus S in the coming weeks, and ready for a potential upgrade/carrier switch right about the time Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5.)
