AppStore tax? Come back when you get a clue about how retail business works in the real world. Software sold at a retail store gets "taxed" more than 30% of the retail selling price. Sheesh.
In the real world, you have many different retail outlets to sell your products and they keep 10-25% of your sales.
In Apple's world, the only outlet allowed is Apple's own App Store, and nobody else as Apple doesn't allow competition on its platform, and they keep 30%.
Retail box of Adobe PS Elements sells for $99 in the store, and Adobe makes $50 after the middlemen and the final retailer takes theirs...
Hosting, bandwidth, payment processing, and Apple breaks even on their 30% "tax" as you say. Ask Moog Music if they're upset with any of this and see what they tell you.
Apple says thanks Moog for the 300 000$ for the the 30% appstore tax."
At only 69p, it seems that everyone is downloading Animoog, and why not? It's a bargain. But I wonder if the update to v2 will be payware ($30?), and that's how Moog will eventually get their money back from all of us?
"referring to their app store as a monopoly is just ridiculous."
Is there any other store for Apple's device? A legit store I mean (hacker's store Cydia does not count)?
Can you simply download an app from the web and sync it to your device?
If the answer is no, then the App Store is a monopoly on Apple's devices, and if you don't understand that, its because you are comfortable in the distortion reality field.
"Doesn't even deserve an argument."
Doesn't even deserve an argument, but deserves an empty comment?
Are people really unaware that brick and mortars get 45-50% of a product's selling price in the real world? I'm baffled at such ignorance. Look at any distributor's website and do the research. For example, Alliance if you wanted to sell games and toys. You can easily do the research for yourself and find out about the retailer/distributor relationship financially.
That is if you aren't to baked from hitting the bong at your local Wall Street protest.
Software ain't the same as musical instruments, toothpaste, or cars, so your Guitar Center retail experience has no bearing in this pointless debate.
30% is a reasonable figure and almost the industry standard for the hosting and digital ditribution of software. It is not a ”tax" or unfair, and anyone who says so is probably still in High School and therefore, an idiot. :)

Have you ever worked in retail?? Do you believe the music store keeps 2000$ on a Moog synth that they sell for 4000$??
"Apple breaks even on their 30% "tax" as you say."
Apple was proud to say they gave 1 billion $ to developers, do you really believe operating the app store did cost Apple over 300 million dollars??
"You forgot the distributor, Einstein."
Mentions Einstein.
Sucks at maths.
Creates fake statistics.
Prefers to stay anonymous.
We understand why.
Calling Apple's cut a tax or referring to their app store as a monopoly is just ridiculous. Doesn't even deserve an argument.

Then maybe you should stop spreading it around?
"hitting the bong at your local Wall Street protest"
I see you are a hardcore republican? Did you feast well on corn dogs during the Tea Party protests?

Maybe in the software business, but I work in a music store, and we didn't get to keep 2500$ last time we sold a Voyager XL.
