Does anyone know ...
Anything about modified / customised palm PDAs? I have an idea for a project and I've been looking around for some inspiration from any pictures or details of older palm PDAs that have been hardware hacked in some way or customised.
Any info you have or anything anyone can remember about something you heard of or saw in the past would be useful.
Basically anything to do with modifying or altering the hardware of a PDA.
I know it is a bit of a vague request, sorry about that!

openframeworks @ the public school, LA, Jan 10th and 17th
Jeremy Rotsztain and Keith Pasko will be providing a gentle and thorough introduction to openframeworks at the public school. Not to be missed if you are in the LA area.
http://la.thepublicschool.org/class/1332
While sadly, the website lists the registration as closed (we apologize as we missed this workshop in the last email), we encourage interested folks to check about availability, and further more, to propose to take or teach classes at the public school, which are located in many cities around the world.
more info:

Open Source Creative Coding, V&A London UK, January 29
Technology is increasingly being used to deliver messages in a variety of formats, many in the real world. Open Source coding techniques are enabling new forms of collaboration and creativity. This workshop with Hellicar & Lewis will demonstrate how to use OpenFrameworks Open Source platform to create real world installations that educate, inspire and intrigue. You will learn the basics of OpenFrameworks and explore how using software in an Open Source fashion can allow for innovation and more time for creativity, rather than endless re-invention of the wheel, and how computer programming knowledge can inspire appraisal of areas such as Graphic Design, Sculpture, Play and Anthropology. Suitable for beginners with basic computer skills. Part of the Decode exhibition programme.

There's an interesting post over at GameSalad covering their first year. They've come a long way in 12 months.
What does Zen Garden mean?

I found this at RJDJ Labs:
Zen Garden is an implementation of the Pure Data application programming interface. It is designed as an audio library, making it easy to plug into any audio software, either as the primary audio engine or as a plugin. It is built from the ground up in portable C++ using modern software design principles, making it easily extensible and available for use on most modern platforms, including mobile systems such as iPhone and Android. ZenGarden is open source under the LGPL. Find the official repository at: http://github.com/mhroth/ZenGarden
So does this mean that someone could use Zen Garden to develop for Palm or Windows mobile? I'd be really interested to know what devs views are?

Auteureist 1.2 features

Auteureist 1.2 sounds like it will have some interesting features:
- reordering of locations and characters (this takes a bit more work than chapters/novels).
- add in-app purchase code to handle new features, the first of which will be...
- the new major feature: Journal Mode. This will allow you to use Auteureist for maintainingg a journal as well as allowing you to journal and annotate your actual writing. (Yes there will be a built- in calendar). This will be unlockable via a 0.99 US cents in-app purchase. So if you want it you pay, if not you don't get Journal Mode. This is something I want since I haven't found a good journal app, and integrating it is a natural fit.
- I want to make backup/restore a bit more granular. Specifically, I want to be able to backup/restore individual novels. This will require a lot of redesign and rework on the database. It will also allow for more flexibility elsewhere. (I may push this to 1.3)
- a real contest since the timing on the NaNoWriMo one was off.
- a few surprise free features
- the usual tweaks and bug fixes.

There's lots to look forward to this year, lots of great new apps on the horizon and updates on the way, and later this month an announcement from Apple which everyone is saying will be for the iSlate or some kind of tablet device.
Who knows what a tablet will bring for mobile musicians? Will it run iPhone apps or real OSX? I guess we have to wait until the 26th to find out.
