Last week Apple started allowing users on older versions of iOS to download the last compatible version of apps when the latest version is incompatible with their version of iOS. I held off posting about this last week as there seemed to be a lot of backlash from developers about having to support this. However, as far as I can see this is great because it allows users to get an old version of an app if they can't use the latest.
Now I can understand that developers might be concerned about supporting old versions but I think that so long as it's clear that support is for the latest version only any reasonable user would be ok with that.
So, is it a good idea or not? I'd say yes. How about you?

It's a great idea. It puts pay to the idea too that iPhones will all end up in landfill as it will allow older ones to be used still.
It's great. Makes it easier to keep using those old units.
we have gotten to a point when people on an ipad 1 cant use apps they have paid for cause they have been updated past os compatibility. this is necessary.
Doesn't affect me as I keep a backup of every version of every app I've ever downloaded since 2009.
Yes, I have issues!
Totally loving that! I have a 1st gen iPad, an iPad 3, an iPhone 3GS, an iPhone 4S and an iPad 4 … so YES I want to keep using them all … forever :)
