TASCAM Announces iXZ Mic/Instrument Interface for iPad / iPhone / iPod Touch

Another way to get audio into your iDevice. Looks like a competitor for the iRig / AmpKit LiNK devices. Here are the features:
  • Switchable mic/line input
  • Phantom power
  • Gain control
  • 1/8” headphone output
  • XLR mic input
  • High-impedence guitar input
  • Mic input powered by two AA batteries
  • Non-powered guitar input
More information at Tascam.

Haven't we been down this road before guys?

What have we learned about interface connectors through the headphone jack?

The dock port should be in the eyepiece of these manufactures. Still, the more the merrier. The more focus on music and the mobile device world the better. I can understand wanting to keep the device more universal(Android might get mobile music?) but I still think that the dock is a better choice for interfaces.

I agree in principle but to get audio in through the dock connector on iPads and iPhone 4 don't you need an ADC in the connector? I was under the impression that those dock connectors had analog in removed.

that's the point the device should have a high quality a to d. the one in the headphone jack is not meant for even hobbyist sound quality...that's the point the device should have a high quality a to d. the one in the headphone jack is not meant for even hobbyist sound quality...
