SoundZen HD arrives
The iPad version of SoundZen arrives. Here are the details:
SoundZen is a new concept for music. It allows you to generate constantly evolving and changing music with no effort at all.
SoundZen uses a form of cellular logic to determine how your song evolves over time. It follows 2 simple principles:
1. When an arrow touches the edge of the grid, play a note.
2. If arrows collide they must turn 90 degrees for each arrow they collide with
You set up the app by touching any of the positions on the grid, touch it again to change direction and press play. Using the principles above, SoundZen will take you on a zen-like journey based on the input you gave. Sit back, relax and watch as your song changes right in front of you.
You can also save/load your songs and purchase new sounds from the store. After buying a new instrument you can change it by pressing the arrows above the instrument image.

This looks pretty much like a clone of Otomata.
Another Otomata clone. As soon as the aforementioned gets midi functionality, it's all over.
Damn! You got there before me. Curse my slow fingers!
when will they learn that we dont want to buy samplepacks
we want midi so we can use your own sounds
our
Thanks for the feedback guys, we are looking at adding both midi functionality and the ability to record and share in the near future :)
and tempo, please.
It's cool that so many devs look at this site. I for one, feel like I have a voice (anonymous though it is). Palm Sounds is the number one site for.....well, guess!!
Ashley, please take a bow - you are the man. Thanks.
Come on Otomata; we need virtual midi!
Just like pretty much every Tenori-On clones were actually copying ToneMatrix by André Michelle. Nobody ever credited him.
IOS is all about copying other peoples idea and selling them (maybe not all of IOS, but a big portion of it is).
And its not only with music apps, look at all the games which are copies of existing flash games.
I look at Otomata as being fairly different from ToneMatrix. The self-modifying rules, inspired from Conway's Life, take Otomata into a different realm.
@wavedeform:
You took the words right out of my mouth. Wasn't that a meatloaf song? Lol.
all these interfaces are a variation of game of life
nothing wrong with that
@wavedeform
I never wanted to say Otomata is like ToneMatrix, they really are not the same.
I just wanted to point out that too many devs are copying stuff like Otomata and Tonematrix on IOS.
There are too many people making copies of the stuff that Apple won't allow on their platform in their original forms, usually before the original devs can make it in an app. And they never get credits for. I find this sad.
Even Angry Birds is just a copy of Crush the Castle, which wouldn't work initially on IOS because its made with Flash.
If you want game of life; try Runxt Life.
cool, thx!
i missed that one
The "making music with no effort at all" part, that's the reason the old guard Emerson Lake and Palmer types hate apps. Devs, fair warning, traditional musicians despise phrases like this, though I understand there's marketing invOlved. But come on, make us think it'll at least take a LITTLE effort lol
Emerson Lake and Palmer types stll think playing the minimoog by hand and noodeling with the moodwheel sounds cool &_&
sequencer, oh no thats cheating
sampler, oh no thats cheating
analog sounds better then digital
lol
come on, the 80's are over
art isnt made by computers, its the guy infront of the computer!
"Emerson Lake and Palmer types stll think playing the minimoog by hand and noodeling with the moodwheel sounds cool &_&"
Yes, its much more cooler to see some guy press play on his laptop or ipad and then look at his screen doing nothing else for an hours.
@Lala
Would you prefer looking at a guy play with iMS-20 on an ipad on stage or to play with a real MS-20?
i prefer to listen to music & not look @ it,
there are concerts where i have my eyes closed for half the set
im fine with a guy and his ipad or laptop and a lot of smoke on stage,
like jesus & mary chain did, u could hardly see them, just a lot of smoke and a wall of sound :)
if u want a show how about a half naked girl with a whip and a half naked guy :)
if u just press play then its not live ;)
a cd player could do that
if the guy is cool and reacts to the crowd thats much cooler then some boring band that does everytime the same show and just changes setlists, even if it looks like he is going to his mail while shacking his booty.
through

Would you care to explain why you feel people like ELP are stupid for noodeling, while you prefer not to look at how the music is made?
You are hard to follow, in your first comment, you laugh at the people who are noodeling, and in your second one, you claim its not important how the music is made.
i hate elp
and now the moog solo, brrr
i dont care how its made as long as it sounds good
i like suicide
not elp, they are a bunch of boring hippies

@lala
Boring hippies?
I don't think Emerson stabbing knives into a Hammond organ, and playing it upside down, whilst it's on top of him, could be called boring! Although you wouldn't have seen that because you would have had your eyes closed.
yes i think thats boring
john cale playing heartbreak hotel while lieing under the piano ripping of the carpet of the stage was very cool, but the audience was strange, guys in suits and girls in their little blank one, lol
feel so lonley, krschhh, u feel so lonley, ccrrrsch(more noise from the carpe)t, u could die

Consider me enlightened.
i will never forget that concert,
it was so magic, it was like the audience didnt dear to breath, u could have dropped a pin and everybody would have heard it,
john cale & me were the only guys in leatherpants and tshirt, the rest was suits & dresses
Yawn. Isn't this getting a tad off-topic?
@lala:
Remember you're an individual; just like everyone else.
more ot
the off topic chats here are the best since ableton forums got so boring
I referenced ELP (yeah I'll use the acronym) but j have nothing but respect for them and all you middle schoolers best do the same. Hippies?? It's called prog and there ain't a less hippy-ish music to be found. Kids if you like the little tin noises your super bitchen $3 apps make then you have to by default respect ELP. If only because the dEvs behind your favorite app respects them, guaranteed. And just dont ever use the word Moog in vain, you seem like uneducated, ungrateful little inbreds when you do that.
this uneducated kid is much older then u think,
i had a moog prodigy and a minimoog d, but i sold them years ago, because u know what, i think they r boring. a moog55 is an another story. so i can say jehowah as long as i want. and ppl call me a fanboy, lol
oh no, progressive blues rock aint f***ing hippies, rofl
uh, btw, what makes u think u know whats may fav. app is? all your assumptions were wrong...
