It only took Apple 5 years before they could release a handset device that doesn't require a computer to boot.

Innovation!

But then as a seasoned professional who's been working for Apple for the last 30 years or so, it's completely obvious that I've got bugger all of a clue when it comes to software engineering and product innovation.

Clueless!

You're right. Everyone who made Pocket Computers and Palms for the past decade were so in the wrong.

Clueless?

"seasoned professional who's been working for Apple"

Oh I see, you've been working for Apple. Now I understand why you had never heard of such a thing before.
Don't you mean you're wanabee professional?

For some who supposedly worked at Apple for the last 30 years, you seem to have forgot about the Newton, which didn't needed a computer to function.

Innovation? Or regression?

isn't this a bit of a technicality? if you really wanted to, you could never sync your ipod touch after the first time and it'll boot just fine. I have complaints about ios, but the initial bootup isn't high on the list.

However, having to synch to back-up/upgrade is a b*tch though, and I'm glad that's being addressed.

btw, i'm a bit confused by the 2nd post up there... nobody said you were clueless, so what are you talking about? Or is this one of those mixed identity things...

@Anonymous

Oh yes, it must have been that rosy green Newton that fell out of that Apple tree and smacked me right there on the top of my bonce.

It quite obviously failed to inspire me, leaving me with both a headache and temporary amnesia.
