Well, you probably expected that I'd do something for the iPad launch day, at least the US launch day. I expect to have a fair amount of news and thoughts on the iPad today, but probably other stuff too.

More news on the next version of SoundGrid 3. Here's a bit more of what's coming:
New Live Play mode in SoundGrid 3 shows overview of all layers and patterns on one screen. It allows to quickly switch pattern for any layer and (new!) to select next pattern that will be automatically activated after the current one. This will make SoundGrid better suited for live performance/recording.

Bleep!Box on the iPad arrives (+ new features)
Bleep!Box is now available for the iPad and as the developer promised is a universal binary so you won't pay twice if you have it already. The iPhone version gets some new features at the same time too.
A delay effect has been added to each of the Synth parts (meaning you can get individual delays for those, in addition to the existing global delay.
You can tap and drag any of the top edit buttons on the SEQ page to edit their values. This makes it possible to do quick adjustments in one gesture.

EATYone has started working on a Max For Live patch that exposes all the parameters of the Shruti-1 as NRPN, so they can be automated, saved and recalled from Ableton Live. Exciting stuff!
That and the 9V battery. Amazing stuff. I might have to brush up my soldering after all.
BeatSequencer comes to the iPad
I can't believe that this app has come to the iPad. I could never get it working with my 3G. If anyone does buy this I'd be really interested to know if it actually works at all.

Yes it is for real. Korg are bringing the electribe to the iPad. The iElectribe is priced at $9.99 until the 30th of June. The scoop goes to Syntheticbits for this.

More evidence of iPhone OS4 multitasking
Brighthand has this story about multitasking in Apple's next iteration of the iPhone OS. However, they say that the new features may be restricted to the latest version of the device which could be out as early as the spring.
I would have thought that Apple would want some breathing space between getting the iPad out and announcing a new iPhone OS, but who knows.

Intermorphic: Mixtikl as universal binary for iPad
Intermorphic confirm that Mixtikl 2 will be a universal binary for iPhone and iPad, and the price is staying at $3.99 for the moment, but may go up with additional features.

Akai Synthstation 25 update

I've just checked Dolphinmusic and they have the keyboard on for sale as at the 1st of May, so who knows when we will see this device and app!

Cue.Play.DJ gets some good new features:

Retronyms bring Synth to the iPad
I got an email from Retronyms late yesterday about their new iPad project. It looks good, very good indeed. So here's the scoop on their new iPad app called "Synth".
About Synth
Synth is a no-nonsense, super fun keyboard-based synthesizer. Those familiar with DopplerPad will recognize the core sound, as it's based on the synthesizer and sampler at the heart of DopplerPad. Synth ups the anti a bit with 5-note polyphony, independent mod wheel, and several independent knobs on the face that control delay and distortion. Synth will be available for iPad launch.
So what about DopplerPad?
Retronyms are still working on a DopplerPad version for the iPad, and they want to do things right, so we're going to have to wait, and personally I'm happy to wait a while for a great app like DopplerPad.
To date we've only got good things from Retronyms so I doubt that anyone will be disappointed with Synth.
So here's another great reason to go iPad as if I needed another one.
