Mixtikl in the morning
For a few weeks now I've been using Mixtikl in the morning on the train. My journey on the train is less than 10 minutes, so it is a real struggle to get anything done, but I've found Mixtikl very effective is small timeframes.
One of the things I've noticed with Mixtikl is how it has changed my music making. Mixtikl is about mixing, and that makes life easier in one sense as you have to pick what you work with rather than starting from scratch. But, it also makes you think in different direction about how you use loops and make them work in the way you want.
I've found Mixtikl very handy for my short journeys, and I hope to be able to share some of my output soon.
How did you hear about Palm Sounds?

Loopy site update

Loox
I was interested in Robman84's Loox 720 from a comment he made about it concerning connecting it directly to a Boss Micro BR.
As Robman says, this is a really rare feature and I've not heard of it elsewhere.
I'd be interested to know if anyone is aware of other devices (PPC or otherwise) that work in this way.
The Loox has the wonderful (and sadly rare) feature of supporting USB host. So you can plug anything USB into the bottom connector (like a dock connector - I've got a 3rd party one with female USB hanging off it). Things like USB memory sticks, hard drives and game pads seem to work fine. The Micro BR just appears as a "hard disk" in Explorer (I actually use Total Commander though). I can then copy the tracks off really quickly without having to dismantle the BR to get the memory card out! Obviously you have to export the tracks as WAV files in the BR first. But then it's straight into MeTeoR for multi-track goodness. So far no multi-track apps on the iPod have tickled my fancy enough to explore using FTP or similar to get stuff on there.

Better App Management?
I have complained about the way applications are organised in the iPhone on a couple of occasions. I saw this post on TUAW and watched the video. I think the idea goes part way, but not far enough. I really do prefer the old Palm categories for apps, I think it worked really well. Apple have got to do something about this as their interface didn't consider the number of apps that people would want to have on their devices.
Anyway, rant over (for now).
What we'd like to see in Bebot
Following on from the comments on the last post on Bebot I think it is fair to say there's a list of things that it could benefit from:
1. Save settings. This would make it much more useful so you could have multiple settings to recall.
2. Record (and overdub)
3. Export to .wav?
4. Hide the bot (optional maybe).

Mac OS 7 on an iPhone
Emulate, emulate emulate ...
I really like emulators. I don't know why. Here's a project to try and put Mac OS 7 on an iPhone. Why, I don't know, and I doubt you could do much with it musically.
I did get OS7 running on my Axim at one point, and whilst it was interesting I couldn't do anything useful with it. Perhaps these guys will have more luck although I doubt they'll get it past the app store.

I had missed this app coming out, and I'm sure it is very good indeed, but I doubt that I will be buying it, as at £99.99 it is a little out of my league.

Sunvox on my Axim
I've been using Sunvox on my Axim and I've been really impressed with how it responds on the Axim. I think I'm getting used to how Sunvox works, although the tracker interface is still something I struggle with.
Thoughts about Looptastic
I had a bit of time today and went through all the tracks and loops in this app. There are some really nice loops here. What would be nice is to be able to use whichever loops you wanted all mixed up together. A save option and an export / record option would be nice too.
This app reminded me a lot of Surface DJ Lite, but this app has that nice filter function which makes it stand out. I think that Looptastic could be even more amazing, maybe with a bit more flexibility in which loops you use and the maximum number of loops etc. It could do with recording and making your own songs too.
I hope the developer updates it. I hope it goes on to bigger things.

Velocipede's thoughts on Noise IO
velocipede commented this on my post about Noise IO Pro this morning. I understand and agree with this. Sometimes interfaces make you work in ways that don't fit with you and that can cause you to find it difficult to work with an application and use it to it's full potential. Here's what he said...
I was spending some time with Noise IO Pro last night after letting it sit on my Touch for about a month.
I spent a lot of time making a patch and trying to figure it all out. I am impressed by the power and sound it has and the configurable XY screen.
At the end, though, I started to wish that I could patch up on my Mac and just use the Touch version to play it. To make a patch, Noise IO demands more commitment than I have when I am using my Touch because of all the pages. I am going to spend more time with the presets in the future.
I hope that the record function is improved in a future update. I can certainly imagine using it to send riffs to Beatmaker.

Thoughts on Bebot
I mentioned Bebot a while back and never got around to giving you a bit more information about it. In many ways Bebot is a lot like other theremin-esque (is that a word?) apps available on the app store. However, as a number of people have pointed out, there is more to this app than meets the eye. It is in fact quite deceptively versatile.
The app does give you a small amount of control over sound and waveform, together with the scale and a couple of effects, all of which helps a lot. However, the really impressive thing for me was the number of touches it would accept. Four simultaneous notes was really good.
I'd like to see some accelerometer functionality in the app, and maybe a record function too. But it is good as it stands.

Kaossilator and iShred
I was jamming with a friend the other day, he was a using a kaosillator, and I was mucking about on my iTouch. It struck me just how many music apps I have for the Touch, and how many can be used for jamming / performing.
I did a bit with Bebot, and a few other apps, but iShred was really useful for jamming and noodling about. I can't recommend it more.
I just wish I'd taken some pictures or recorded the audio, or videod any of it, but I never thought of it in time. Never mind.

Some work in progress
I thought you might be interested in some of the stuff I am (very slowly) working on. I always seem to have loads of half finished, or started off ideas lying around all over the place. Anyway, I hope you like this, it is of course, not finished.
Anyone try GameSalad as yet?
I've only just started having a poke around in the GameSalad Alpha. It looks quite interesting. The idea that you can make a bunch of games on your own and then deploy them without writing a single line of code is very neat.
I'm not sure how this will work on the iPhone, but I'm sure they have it worked out. If anyone else has had a look at this then please let me know.

Having posted on trippy h, the little app for game boy that sits inside a camera cart, I thought I'd see if I could track one down. Well, I did. On eBay, and only £5. So I decided to buy it, and it has arrived.
I'll post up a couple of pictures of the device itself in a day or so, but I don't think screen shots are going to be possible as Concretedog tells me that the greyscale screen is no good for taking pictures of.
Anyway, if anyone has any other suggestions of what I could do with a gameboy pocket (as now I have one), I'd appreciate them. Or indeed if you have any stories of what you've done with your GB Pocket to make music, or anything else interesting for that matter, just get in touch in the usual way.

I was showing a friend my iPod Touch the other day and explaining some apps. As I showed him Noise IO Pro it suddenly dawned on me just how powerful the application is and how much you can do with it.
I think it becomes easy to forgot apps like this when new ones are coming out all time. I think I should spend a little more time with it now.
