DS Compatibility Chart

I'm more than sure that I've posted this before, but it's very useful, especially if you're considering re-entering DS music! Many thanks to Peace for Two for this comment.

I'd love to get my hands on the Korg M01 but the only option seems to be ebay where it sells anywhere between $85 - $120 per cartridge, imported from Japan. I have been having a lot of fun with the DS-10 though and really like the DS platform.

If you pick up a DS, give the Rytmik series a try. They are pattern based sequencers but have a lot of potential and lots of options, though the sounds are purely sampled and not editable. Thankfully, you get quite a few sounds with each version and they all work very nicely in their respective environments.

There's Rhythm Core Alpha as well which is interesting but could really use a nicer interface and better sounds. It's a fascinating app but the sounds are quite lo-res and buzzy which limits its usefulness to me.

Only the DSi and 3DS have access to the online service to purchase the Rytmik apps so the original DS and DSLite wouldn't work.

The DSi series have dropped quite a lot in price and now sell here in the US for about $100, while the 3DS sells for about $160. I still have my DSLite with a special card that lets me run the original version of Colors, which is an awesome paint program. The "official" version of Colors was just released for the 3DS a couple of months ago.
