"Dance Music has been riding a heavy old-school wave, of which the 303's resurgence is part... The 303 sound is also finding its way into a lot of pockets, thanks to Pulse Code..." - Michaelangelo Matos, SPIN Magazine, August 2011 print issue.

User interface seems a little bit broken on iPod Touch 4G 32GByte

It looks nice, but as dcp wrote, the interface is, to use a technical term, hosed, at least on my 4G iPod Touch. Not much seems to work at all.

Works fine on my iPhone 4. Cute little app for a spot of fun.

thanks @dcp and @-42- for the report. I was going to buy it based solely on the price but thankfully decided to have a look at the comments.

Louie the app's creator is aware that that the iPod 4 incorrectly scales the screen. On his website it says it will be fixed in the next update.

What is planned for the next update:
http://www.pulsecodeinc.com/forumpress/?vasthtmlaction=viewtopic&t=5.0

It works perfectly fine on my iPad.

it was a major bummer to see it fail so massively on the Ipod Touch 4G- I must have powered my ipod down a dozen times trying to figure out wtf was going on.

Well... their last app they pulled from the store before it even got an first update.
That was about 5,- or so and only existed a few months.

Their other (free) app also didnt work on the ipod touch 4G I remember.

But maybe they got it right now,
apps where very nice and had a lot of potential,
that was never the problem.

Too many apps being rushed into the store before their time. Tabletop, now this. It's getting mildly disappointing.

I had an iced coffee for $2.17 today and it was ok. This app is pretty fun and it cost half that. i have 4.3 3gs and it runs fine.

Jeez, the timing of this vs. Tabletop… I kinda feel sorry for both developers having their apps come out within like a week of each other. I'd be really interested to see a side-by-side comparison between the two apps. I'm sure they must be pretty different in results even if they seem similar at first glance.

Yeah never mind… 5 minutes playing with it and I can see it's completely different from Tabletop in almost every way. I can see the potential but for now I feel like Tabletop is more up my alley due to its choice of instruments, and configurability/versatility in setup. I still need to watch the vids though.

works fine on my ipad 2.

@edith I was going to say the same thing basically, but I feel worse for the RS dev, retronyms are a relative heavyweight in ios music (even though they're a tiny company by real-world standards), and the superficial similarities could overshadow the deeper differences for casual users.

For 99c, I was happy to pick up RS. It works fine on my ipad2. I'll try and give it a fair shake.

Nice to see you revise Edith.Very rare. The app really is like Rebirth lite.

No audio copy/paste, only itunes import/export. This sux :(

I think it is great (iPad 1). Only had a few mins on it but I like the 808 sound. It claims (I think) to be synthesized only.

the best .69p I have spent on an app.I too had a few issues on my ipod touch 3 but on my i pad 2 it works fine. geting a drum machine emulation and 2 synths for 69 pence can't be sniffed at. it sounds good too and the kaossilator type interface works well esp on the tb 303 and drum machine. In fact this part of the app really stands out.I have tabletop but I feel it takes a long time to get it all up and running and doesn't sound that good as the synths are so poor-I think tabletop will get better as time goes by with updates but r/s really is a joy to use.in fact, retronyms could learn someting from r/s and pulse code could learn something from retronyms?? but I can't wait to get home and get on r/s .If they can implement copy and paste out then this app could really form the basics of cool tracks.

Yep I love it!5 stars

This was a no-brainer for me. It was 99 cents. I found that under the seat of my car the other day. What I like most is that the developer is saying that future updates will be free. It is a wait and see situation because so many developers promise and don't deliver.

When I first saw the app I was thinking TableTop, but it is different. After visiting the developers website it appears that they are planning a similar infrastructure like TableTop's. This is going to be interesting.

god forbid that something prevents a developer from doing what she/he had hoped to accomplish with your spare change!

people, I understand the disappointment, but maybe sometimes it just doesn't work out for the developer to attempt to live off of 66 cents of the 99 cents you paid.... even though they had hoped it would.

Have some compassion - even the (perhaps especially) smallest apps are probably someone's dream that they worked for months on.

kidBaltan said...

Yeah, but still thats different than their last 6 dollar app that lasted 4-5 months and zero updates

kidBaltan said...

but if they get it working I still buy it :)

on my iPod Touch 3G works excellently!
Sounds certainly as a toy, but is not worse as Tabletop.
Possibly programmers did sounds, instead of professional sound designers.

I'm sorry, I didnt see the message on the developers website, that Intua pasteboard will be supported on next update.
Well, I'm was playing around and I realy like it! Works great on iphone4 and ipad1+2

Pulse code had two other apps that they pulled from the app store: Android FX and Polywave. Both were fun little synth noise making apps. Why were they removed?

Anonymous said...

rhytmtrax was also removed from the dev

Liking it. Think I'm a control pad addict. Love kicking out hundreds of patterns in no time. Audio copy and midi out, either live or file with pitch bend and I'd be very happy. Can't believe someone hasn't done this or the ims20 style pad with midi out yet...
Everybody needs a 303 and a synthesised 808. But the st1 has actually surprised me with some (ultimately) usable sounds. Effects and control interface prove all conquering again...
