G-Stomper Drum Machine for Android (Base Tutorial)

I've not tried this Android app but it looks quite good.

It's excellent. It's a pocket-sized e-tribe port (port seems more accurate than clone here) down to the letter - per-sample pan, offset, length, pitch, envelope, gate, reverse, fill. Song mode, effects, even has motion sequencing! Can't wait to see what else they do with the audio engine, looking forward to seeing more apps from this dev.

Minor issues - why is the default kit all 909 rimshots!? :) G-stomper also isn't the most catchy name, but oh well. The app also seems to be underpromoted - no webpage, no twitter feed.

Hi
I'm the dev of G-Stomper. Thank you for posting my app here.

@anonymous Thank you, great to hear, that you like it..

The reason, why the default soundset is all 909 rimshots, is to use as less memory as possible for the empty patterns (memory is very rare in a pure java mobile environment). The point is, that the 16 peloaded patterns must be filled with some initial stuff, in fact with empty patterns. If I would fill the initial patterns with a complete set, it would us around 600k, a rimshot just uses 20k.
If you now use the 808 set for the first of the 16 pattern slots, the 808 and the 909 set would be in memory, since the other 15 slots still would use the 909 samples.
The samples are pooled, which means, they're only once in memory, even if they're used in multiple patterns. But even, the memory is still very tight, since there are devices with a 24 or 16mb limit per app.
I could also use a dummy sample with 1ms lengh, but I thought the rs is allright for that job. Remembers me on my esx, where all slots were initially filled with kickdrums;).

Yes, I agree, it is underpromoted. I'm still new in the mobile scene, as well as in audio development. So far, the app runs pretty solid, which is a great success for me, and it's great seeing all you guys unsing it.

Btw.. there is a website for Gst: http://www.planet-h.com/gstomper/

.. as well as a facebook app page

.. but yes, twitter feed is missing, but is coming soon for sure

@planeth That makes total sense from a rational standpoint, my personal preference would be to default to no samples (which would get you 9999999 reviews saying "ripoff - doesn't make any sound, deleting...").

This doesn't also account for 2 not-so-rational issues: 1) first impressions and 2) only a minority of users will use any music app to any level of depth. I've definitely heard way too many BM/NS songs that only use the default drumkit.

Anyway, bottom line - app is great and I'd like to see it do well. Good luck!
