It occurred to me earlier that the last couple of videos of Akai's SynthStation app have showed it running on an iPad. I thought that was a bit strange. Why wouldn't they make videos of it running in the iPK25 hardware? Maybe they're having issues with the hardware integration and want us to think of the 2 products separately? Maybe they'll release the app sooner and perhaps the hardware later or, worst case, never!
What do you think? Am I being paranoid?

Sweetwater says that their shipment from Akai is due within a day or so and shipments will start immediately. I'm expecting that I'll be getting mine this week but I'll believe it when I see it.
I'll be certain to give you an extensive review after I've used it a bit!

hopefully paranoid!.
i assumed that it was the standard iphone app running 2x on the ipad, and that demoing on the ipad was just for convenience (bigger screen, easier to perform on, hopefully avoided it looking too 'fiddly')
it does seem odd to demo on the pad when it wont be compatible with the ipk25 addon though.. unless..
..I dont know much about ipods but is there some sort of connector cable extension? then you could plug in an ipad without it having to be in the small ipod dock
I really don't understand what's taking them so long to release this app, Last time I heard about this Akia and Apple communicating was in Feb, or March about some issues with the app. Now we're going into May and still nothing. Then these video's of the app is popping up *what a tease*.....
Pierre, if you can send pics / unboxing etc, that'd be brilliant, would love to do a piece on it.
Off to check if there's any signs of it in the UK.
Rog, you could be right, but if it were my new product I'd want to show off the hardware integration and how amazingly it all worked together!
I don't know whether such a cable exists but it should be easy to make.
Having the iPad standing on the front - in the same position as a sheet music holder - would be good but I guess the problem here is really whether Apple allows iPad access to synthstation.
It probably looks better on an iPad, and it's also easier to "demo" it, i.e. to show on a video the various modes of the application.
At least, I hope that's it, and that the synth hardware is coming soon, because I'm not interested in the 1st gen iPad :-)
RogB you can get extension cables for a couple of quid on ebay or dealextreme.
I bought an extension cable ss soon as the iPad was announced JUST IN CASE I bought one so I could use it with the Synthstation 25 keyboard :o)
I can understand Akai wanting to wait for the hardware to be ready before releasing the app. The app comes as part of the hardware keyboard purchase. If you want the app without the hardware, it will be available as well.
If you want an unboxing video, I'll be happy to comply. I only hope there's no problems running the app on an iPod Touch 2G (though I haven't seen anything stating it's purely 3rd gen hardware compatible).
For me, the real brilliance will be when other app developers start to take advantage of a hardware keyboard. I'd really like to use that keyboard with Xewton for instance.
I'll let you know when I get a message that my credit card has been charged. Then I'll know for sure that it's on the way!

so whats it saying on dolphins sight ...... now that may 1st has gone !
FWIW my extension cable hasn't worked since the last iPod touch os update, I hope others haven't encountered this problem. Historically Akai seems to show up 6 months to year late with all their products, so these delays don't surprise me.
It looks like they are selling it as a bundle (app with hardware). At least that's how it's listed on Sweetwater website. That would really stink as I would want this for an ipad! I dont even have an ipod touch/iphone. My ipod is the 80gb video which holds way more music and I see no reason to switch to a touch. My carrier is verizon and I will never in a million years get At&T again. Thus I waited on these products and waited on ebooks and was rewarded with both on the release of the ipad. I can't imagine Akai would really wanna sell themselves short with forcing the bundle. Then there's the consideration of what if you already have a controller you prefer?! Maybe that's the delay? Apple wants an app only version released as well?
