What does he mean by "after the update in OS3.1 there has been no input into the iphone as mic input from 3.5mm cables was no more."? That can't be right, can it? The mic input is through the 3.5 mm TRRS jack plug headphone socket. If it was disabled then the apple headphones with inbuilt mic would stop working. The guitarbud cable simply takes advantage of this input to send guitar signals down this mono input line. If anyone here has the guitarbud cable I am interested in finding out if it has anything added to the wires and connectors. There is some discussion on iphone effect pedal/amp app sites as to whether you need something extra - namely an impedance matching transformer, to get the cable to work properly. These sort of components are available for about 30 dollars so I suspect they have not been included in the guitarbud (which seems to go for about that price by itself).
fixed it, I meant the dock connection. thanks sigmund. i used a macally and a belkin for input. they both had mic input or 3.5mm line in. after the update they both did not work.
OK, that's clear now. It's rather annoying that they seemed to have changed the wiring of the dock connector. Hopefully its simply a matter of switching the wiring of a few pins of a connector in order to get the ipad (and presumably the new iphone) working. After successfully making homemade connectors for microphones, keyboards guitars and even old fashioned telephone handsets (finally skype works properly!) that work through the TRRS 3.5 mm headphone input I've decided to make my own dock connector. Its a pain to source the proper dock connectors but it will be worth it if I can get it sorted.
