Audulus shows up the power of JACK
A good point made by Discchord:
"Audiobus only allows a single effect, and routes all input apps through that effect, but JACK allows you to select individual apps for effect processing and even lets you chain multiple effects together!"
I've often thought that the effects slot in Audiobus was limiting and Discchord's point makes a good case for JACK!

Getting into Yamaha's MMS
This is really because Miki was raving about it the other weekend and on his blog a while back. I'm getting it, but it's taking a while. I guess as I was never a QY100 user it isn't as intuitive for me.

This is not Sonic Logic for the iPhone
However, there was a suggestion that an iPhone version may come along at some point, which is excellent news as far as I'm concerned.

Happy birthday to G-Stomper Beat Studio, 2 years old today
How great! An amazing achievement for an app that gets superb regular updates and sales.
Where next?
As we approach the middle of 2013 (and hasn't it gone quick) I started to wonder what the next big thing in mobile music will be. Will it be hardware? Will it be a new app or apps? Will it be a new glue like JACK and Audiobus or a development of one or both?
I have to admit to being often surprised by the ideas and concepts that developers come out with these days and so asking what's next can be a somewhat pointless exercise. Nevertheless, it's always fun to speculate, so here are a few ideas.
Hardware:
Something radically new from Apple? I doubt that WWDC will bring anything amazing and no one expects the iWatch this year, so will we see anything good for mobile music? Possibly some hardware revisions, but as for anything more I doubt it.
What I'd like to see is the CCK for iPhone, but I'm not holding my breath for that one.
Software:
iOS 7? Hopefully something worth shouting about from an audio / music perspective, but my guess is that the focus will be around the UI and bringing an overhaul to this. I just hope that iOS7 doesn't make life difficult for music developers.
JACK. An obvious one really. Hoping for more apps to integrate to see a bigger ecosystem here, and also to see maybe some ways for JACK and Audiobus to move a little closer together.
Audiobus. I'd like to see features like recipes (routes?) and Wifi (which has been hinted at), but also more usability features like the ability to launch all apps from a recipe (or route) in one go and restore the files/tracks/songs at their previous point. Is that asking too much?
MIDI. Of course I want to see more MIDI and more apps adding simple features like start/stop for starters. Lately I've felt that MIDI implementation has been patchy and I think that there's still plenty of room for improvement in a lot of areas. Perhaps Midibus will help there?
Undoubtedly what will arrive will be out of the blue, and I like to be surprised, but I'd like to think that we can hope for some more innovation soon as it feels to me like the mobile music world has slowed down just a little.

PMA-5 Manuals
I've posted a few PMA-5 videos a while back, but I didn't have the manuals as they didn't come with the eBay auction. Luckily, the chap who sold it to me emailed me to say he'd found these and did I want them. What's more, he sent them to me without me having to pay the postage!
So now I can delve deeper into the old PMA-5 and get going with it a bit more.
Expect more videos soon(ish).

Audulus 2.1 arrives with JACK support and introduces the Poly Pack
Subatomic Software has announced the release of Audulus 2.1 for iPad and Mac. This update to the modular music processing app adds support for JACK on iPad, as well as five new nodes for both iPad and Mac versions.
JACK for iOS is a free app that allows JACK-compatible apps such as Audulus to be connected in any way, with the only restriction being CPU power.
"JACK is a mature, powerful inter-app audio system," explains Audulus developer W. Taylor Holliday. "It's great to see it ported to iOS."
Audulus 2.1 introduces the Poly Pack, an In-App-Purchase upgrade consisting of four new nodes which facilitate stereo and quadraphonic processing of audio input. Audulus nodes can process multiple channels of audio.
"Previously, the only way to generate a polyphonic signal in Audulus was via the Keyboard node in Poly Mode," explains Holliday. "Now, you can do polyphonic processing of audio input. You can even use the QuadToMono node to apply separate processing chains to each voice of a synth."
"I'm not aware of another app on iOS that gives you this fine-grained control of multi-channel processing," adds Holliday.
Version 2.1 also adds a phasor node (not to be confused with the phaser effect), which outputs a phase angle suitable for driving custom oscillators.
Audulus development is user-driven, and these new features were requested by users on the Audulus forum.
Audulus for iPad is available on the App Store for $9.99, 30% off for the remainder of June to celebrate JACK support.
Audulus for Mac is available on the Mac App Store for $29.99.
The Audulus Poly Pack In-App Purchase upgrade is priced at $4.99.

A quick shot of SequenceApp ($2.00) being used on a prepared robotic Steinway ($120,000) via the work of Trimpin. Trimpin's electromechanical preparations included several batteries of solenoid strikers, pluckers, bows, and electromagnetic coils designed to infinitely resonate particular strings -- all controlled via MIDI. Intermorphic to submit Noatikl for iOS this month
Now this is great news, as a very long term fan of Intermorphic, in fact from before they were Intermorphic I was really pleased to hear that the long awaited Noatikl is on the way soon. They've confirmed that they plan to submit Noatikl during June although I don't know quite when that will be.
So I think I might post a few bits and pieces about Noatikl (and maybe Mixtikl too) over the coming days in the run up to this unique app arriving for iOS.

It's just around the corner, starting from the 10th, but what would you love to see announced at WWDC? iOS7? New hardware? What's most important for you?

Anything new for the wait list?
It's Monday, is there anything that needs adding into the wait list? Let me know if there is, or just take a look and see what's coming up.
Are you using Dropbox with your apps?
If you're not using dropbox then it's something you should to check out as loads of apps are now using it as a default for online storage and for a variety of other purposes too, and it works quite well in my view. If you're not using it you can get your own dropbox by clicking this link, and what's more you'll get an extra 500mb just for using this link (and so will I)!

Has the Caustic Modular come to a halt?
There's stuff on the wait list that's been waiting a long time now. Some of if you get the odd hint or snippet of news that something's happening. Other items have seemed to just go cold. This falls into the second category unfortunately.
I'd hoped that this modular concept for Caustic (Android) would see the light of day sooner than this as it was being talked about for a release after the last update to Caustic itself. Sadly, the forum thread seems to have gone cold and it's been nearly a year since the original concept was posted.
If anyone knows more I'd like to hear about it.
