iPhone App Directory

Sorry, was that NanoStudio OSX coming to the mac app store?

I just realised that in the last post about NanoStudio 1.33 the last point said that the next version would see the OSX port available at the Mac app store, which is quite an interesting turn.

I wonder if it'll be the same as the current version, or if it'll work differently from now?

Firstly, good to see you back Ashley!

Up until now I've always provided the OS X version of NanoStudio as a free download from the Blip Interactive website. But since I already had OS X and iOS versions, it wasn't too much work to make the OS X version compatible with the Mac app store requirements.

From V1.33 onwards NanoStudio OS X will only be available via the Mac app store but it will still be free. The way I see it, it'll be a good 'interactive advert' for the iOS version - my hope is that having it in the Mac app store will help gain more visibility than just offering it from my website. Of course, unlike adverts, it's genuinely useful to users too :)

I was a bit concerned that I might have to remove functionality to make it compatible with the app store's sandbox model, but this doesn't seem to have been the case. The main change from a user's point of view is that the user documents have to be moved to a different location, but the installer deals with this automatically if an old (non-app store) installation is already present.

I haven't yet gone through the approval process though, so I'm not counting my chickens quite yet!
