I've got this one for mine (http://www.solutions-inc.co.uk/index.php/store/ipad-accessories/ipad-stands/1805-marware-eco-flip-for-ipad-leather) was £25 pre stupid VAT rise, might be worth hunting on eBay or something...
I tried some cheap cases but ended up getting the apple one, it's the only one that actually fits snug and doesn't hang and flap around the edge of the screen.
I was going to write the exact sqme thing as Matt Hooper did above...I tried a couple of those slide in pouches, but they were miserable. The Apple flip case doubles as a makeshift stand, and it just has the feeling of being well built. $40 american, but I spent that on the first three cases.
You don't want to buy a case after you need one! I can send a photo of my cracked phone screen to illustrate that point.
I would recommend buying the Apple case without hesitation.
Ditto on the apple brand case. Tried about 4 others before deciding on this one. It just has the best quality to it. Got it on day one and I'm glad I did. A naked iPad is a horrible sight!
Gotta be honest I went with a 5 quid one from ebay that also does the vertical stand/keyboard angle stand trick. Works great and has a magnetic closure which is excellent.
It is a little bit "sloppier" than the Apple one, but my mate hates his Apple one - it got filthy in days and after a few weeks the flap refuses to stay even slightly closed over.
Check out the large gadget sleeve from Saddleback Leather. Garunteed 100 years and is full grain leather. I personally prefer sleeves where I can completely remove the case while I work with the device.

Same here. It protects well enough. It's thin enough it's not cumbersome. It folds back so you can position it at a slight angle or a more vertical angle. The design is not that spiffy but that doesn't bother me, it's dark and not obtrusive.
The only downside I've had with it was the the dock opening was offset a bit and did not allow the Camera Connection Kit to remain seated; I had to nip the case myself to give the CCK enough clearance.
Less screen coverage than the Apple Case but gives the same functionality plus latches the cover closed when not in use. Had mine for plenty of months now and still going strong.

The Hard Candy Squish Skin is pretty awesome, and there's sellers on eBay that have them cheaper than Amazon.

+1 for the Apple case
although Kork looks to have benefits, I find the Apple case muffles the speaker (althoug I'm mainly plugged in)
