After the news that Android had hit a 100,000 apps and a billion downloads it seems that the news wasn't entirely correct according to techcrunch.
But does it matter? I don't think so. The important thing is that Android is making some real headway and developers are writing apps for the platform.
I'd still really like to see some more audio and music creation apps in there for it to become a real challenger to iOS for mobile music, but hopefully that will come. My main question is what will App Inventor give us? So far I haven't heard of much coming out of it and I haven't heard from anyone who has got to use it as yet.
Have you signed up? Will you sign up? What will you make?

I would caution against putting too much on App Inventor. It appears to be a brilliant tool. But I don't know that it's going to immediately result in thousands of apps that previously weren't available. It will most likely find use among hobbyists and school kids. And certainly there will be some clever ideas expressed.
There are many other development tools that are just now showing up on Android that have the potential to change the app landscape.
Flash and AIR for Android is huge. It looks to perform well, and it's very stable. It's only going to be supported on Android 2.2 however.
Unity 3.0 is coming soon to Android.
Appcelerator Titanium is also supporting Android.
I'm sure there are other frameworks and development environments I've missed.
