I know that not everyone like these because they are restrictive in that they only work in the US store and nowhere else, but as Palm Sounds has a big US readership I think it is only fair to offer them as long as developers want to give out codes. I hope one day that Apple will see the light and allow codes to work elsewhere in the world.
Here's what I'm interested in knowing:
- Would you prefer to have promo code give aways hosted just on the blog or on twitter or on both?
- Do you prefer just a first come first served hand out or some sort of competition?
- Do you think winners should be published or stay anonymous?
Any other views you have on these are more than welcome.

You can create a US iTunes account and use it at the same time as your UK one on the iPhone, I found this out yesterday thanks to a nice developer. I think competitions are a great idea and would encourage community input etc.
I'm based in Europe and can't use them but I think us non US based readers could get some benefit from them if the winner posted a review of the app here. Tell us how it works, ease of use, features, value for money compared to other similar apps etc.
My views:
* I love free stuff!
* An element of competition makes it more fun.
* I don't really like first come first served, but obviously it's easier for you to administer than pulling names out of a "hat" (which is "fairer".
* Not that bothered about publishing winning usernames.
I'm certain all of us here love the idea of promo codes. My biggest problem is that I'm not online for large parts of the day and I'm not on the same time zone as Palm Sounds.
Perhaps, an organized contest time (every Wednesday and/or Friday) with a consistent post and end time would be helpful.
Still, I'm very grateful for the opportunity to get some neat stuff and its great that the developers recognize Palm Sounds as a place to promote their hard work!
Make it clear where the promo code drop is going to be. I for instance rwfreshed Palm Sounds constantly when you said there was to be a Monle drop, only to find out you did it on Twitter. That bothered me. Also I have a job where I can't have my RSS reader open all the damn time. Here is my idea. Collect emails for 1 day, be clear where we send it to, and then use a simple random number generator like one found on random.org to pick a winner. Totally transparent + fair.
