So Retronyms are getting into the hardware market ... Introducing Wej

Well it seems that Retronyms are getting themselves into the hardware business with the new Wej device. Wej combines a non-skid silicone base for creative work with a wireless hub for connecting USB controllers over bluetooth.

I received an email from Retronyms this morning promoting Wej as "A perfect companion for iMPC".

I was at once amused and befuddled. I wasn't used to receiving any news about iMPC enhancements from them. After reading it I had to ask them about the status of the iMPC problems they were supposedly working on and in particular the lack of export capability:

to Retronyms - A perfect companion to iMPC? Really? No, a perfect companion would be the missing project/kit export capability that was included in the original iMPC but missing from the 'Pro' version. You claimed that although that was a listed feature during the build-up prior to the release of iMPC Pro that due to changes in the file structure that feature was not ready in time. Here we are nearly 4 months later and that key feature is still missing. I cannot fathom why Retronyms doesn't realize how important file compatibility with the other MPC products is, but the Wej is not something that would be useful at this time. FYI, just as a proof of concept I was able to implement the same functionality using an old iphone, small passive hub and Apollo Bluetooth Over MIDI. I have requested to Akai that they attempt to rectify this egregious omission by having their desktop MPC programmers implement an iMPC Pro Import function. It is a shame that Retronyms has once again dropped the ball yet promotes something as frivolous as this and expects already disparaged customers to foot the bill.

to me, Retronyms Thanks for the feedback. This is something that is currently not planned however I think this is a great idea and it is something that we may add to iMPC Pro in the future.

Eric

So, in summary why should I or anyone trust and support Retronyms? This latest experiment has dubious value at best. To link it to a product that they have abandoned in the past and are showing strong signs of abandoning in the near future is a clear slap in the face and shows a level of arrogance that many in this forum have pointed out. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, but this takes the cake. Some may say well its only one feature. That is true but it is a feature that was included in the original app.(which was abandoned) and promised in the new "Pro" app. and now that they have received payments from us customers they have backed off and said 'nahhhh, we've moved on to other projects'. I won't even begin to talk about how they weaseled and waffled at the whole Audiobus implementation. That is a whole 'nother ball of wax.
