So what do you use for field recording?

What do you use for field recording? Apps? Hardware? I'm really interested in what works for people when making recordings. Partially just out of interest, but also to help me with how I record.

Waiting to hear from you ...

Hi Ashley. I use a Zoom H4. But I'm hoping to get rid of it soon and get an H1.

The mic and the noise suppression algorythms of my nexus 4 are the worst you could ever imagine, external mic doesn't work either because of these algorythms. My iPod is almost as bad for recording, every app has a major flaw that makes it impractical to use. So I decided to get a H2n and that does the job.

Used to use Minidisc for the longest time. Now I just use SpaceSampler for iOS.

I think it's more about what you record than what you use to record it. Think of the newsreels of 1940 and ask yourself, "Was that technology as good as it is now?" The next question is "Can I record anything with that kind of impact or of that level of interest to anyone?" If you can then the recording medium is irrelevant. You own an iPhone. That's good enough. Happy recording.
