My guess is that this can only be good for audio in iOS and OSX? The story from macrumors is that Apple has hired audio pioneer Tomlinson Holman to work on their audio projects.

I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. I would imagine that this latest hire is all about improving the quality of the sound output in handheld devices as well as desktop systems rather than internal app to app functions. You have to remember that Apple already had a partnership with Harmon Kardon.
Perhaps to get make apple tv and ios move to 3d sound capabilities.
I think that it is exciting to think that there are people inside who are have a creative vision of audio. I read in a lot of places (outside of here) why would Apple put core midi on a phone except for ring tones. With people like this involved they might keep development on our ios side project of music creation in the mix.
I also think the huge success of the Korg Gorilla edition might be turing a few heads too.
I hear Garage Band is very popular too, beyond the expections.
Maybe someone could have a word and suggest providing iOS devices with the ability of outputting 2 independent stereo channels....one from the headphone and a different channel from the 30pin connector. This would help out a great deal with all the DJ apps, allowing a separate Cue/PFL to the Master output.
I doubt this is high on their agenda though....shame.
i did an very early rant about ios not including coremidi; maybe its a coincidence maybe someone @ apple read it, i don`t know; but 1/2 a year later ios had midi. I think apple was taken by surprise with us audioheads loving the ipad. lets see what the ipad3 will have to offer ...

They already have the technology needed for iOs devices, so i think its about the further development of pro audio apps like Logic.
