Modus is a simple tool for exploring the concept of musical modes. Modes are a complex system even the most experienced of musicians will have difficulty explaining.
The central figure of Modus is a spinning matrix; a cube of 8 points, each assigned a note of a scale. Through touch gestures the Modus box is spun on it's virtual axis, playing the note on the vertex 'closest' to the viewer.
This random yet oscillating and repeating nature - not unlike a wind chime - allows for mode exploration through feel and character as opposed to arcane musical theory.
Modus features a Guess mode wherein random modes are assigned to the matrix and users try their hand at blind identification.
There are several voices for the notes including piano, guitar and vibes.
