I was reading this article at Read Write Web about how Google's next version of Android will help solve the fragmentation issues that developers currently face with Android.
no (I say this as an android fan). At the same time, PC's have been dealing with "fragmentation" for decades. multiple hardware platforms isn't exactly an unprecedented obstacle.
I think the fragmentation issues have been less about the hardware and more about the software. The problem is that a lot of the hardware has different versions of android and many of the manufacturers customize the android software causing more fragmentation. So, if the different manufacturers start to be consistent (don't put their own layers on top of android) and use the latest android software, the fragmentation will be less (even if the hardware is different).
