Mixtikl update from Pete Cole

Looks like Mixtikl on the iPhone could be coming soon, 4 weeks and then however long it takes Apple to approve it, and at the same time version 1.5 for Windows Mobile too.

All good stuff.

StompVox update

StompVox has got some big functionality upgrades with the ability to now export a loop in wav format. Excellent news, I gotta play with this soon.

Access Garnet VM for Nokia Tablets

Access has updated the Garnet VM for Nokia tablet devices. It looks like this update is a maintenance release and addresses compatibility issues more than anything.

Star Guitar and Star Piano updates

Both of these apps from Amidio have been updated with new patterns from Jordan Rudess. Nice.

iDrum apps updated

The iDrum apps have been updated, but don't get excited as the update only makes them 3.0 compatible.

Concretedog is highly liquid

Concretedog writes about kits from highly liquid, and also points to where you can listen to his interview on BBC Radio Wales.

If you haven't listened to this interview I can tell you that it is well worth a listen.

Gigbaby has had a minor update allowing songs longer than 10 minutes to be exported.

iSyn has been updated and addresses some of the issues that had come up from the last update. Good to see that the issues are getting addressed.

CDM on Novation Automap coming to iPhone

CDM writes about a control app for the Ableton. I like the idea, but I'm still not entirely struck with using controllers on the iPhone / iPod Touch.

Arduino on the BBC

This is a great little ad for the Arduino, and it did include one musical project.

The Pre and iTunes Sync

There's been lots of news about the new Palm Pre syncing with iTunes as though it was an iPod. This is good news for Pre users, but it does make me wonder where the Pre will install apps from? I'm guessing that won't be via iTunes but through Palm's own app store.

So, good in one way, but I still quite skeptical about the Pre for mobile music. It may be a great smartphone, but not for mobile music creation.

DGOS blog gets multiple updates

Admittedly I don't understand all of what's going on here, but what I do get is that this is probably good news for legacy palm hardware. DGOS and the Re-ware project are starting to breathe new life into existing palm legacy hardware.

So, when DGOS is available will you give it a go?

Musique non Talent: FM

Musique non Talent has this post on a new free FM synth app that looks really good, I'll be interested to see what he makes of it.

What does the Zune HD mean?

There's been loads of news about Microsoft's announcement of the Zune HD, and I have to admit that it does look really good, especially the screen. So, what does it mean for mobile music? I notice that it has games, but nothing I've read so far has mentioned anything about applications, and what it the OS it is running?

Anyone know more, or did I miss something?

Been away, back now

As you may have guessed I've been away for a few days and only made a few posts using my iPhone.

Thanks to all those who commented in on the 'Happy Birthday' post, it is great to know that soe many people find the blog useful.

I'll be catching up with news over the next few hours, but I guess some of it you'll already be aware of.

Happy Birthday Palm Sounds

It was the 25th of May 2006 when I started this blog, and at the time I had no idea that anyone at all would read it. Here we are in 2009 and it is still going.

So if you like palm sounds then please spread the word and let someone else who might be interested in mobile music know about the blog.

I hope to keep palm sounds going as long as there are people Reading and things to say.

What will more app stores mean?

It is probably fair to say that the whole app store concept from apple has been a big winner, especially as everyone else is jumping in or making noises at the least.

So, what will it mean for mobile music apps? Will we see the same kind of developer activity as in the app store as with Apple? Will there suddenly be loads of Windows Mobile music apps again, and Palm (webOS) too, if that's possible?

Will the developers who are currently writing code for the iPhone branch out and port apps to new platforms, or write different apps?

It'd be interesting to know if any developers had given it any thought?

What have you stopped?

I think it is fair to say that there's been a bit of an explosion in the number of music apps available for the iPhone and iPod Touch platform. I would estimate that the number of music making apps of varying type dwarf those on both the Palm OS and Windows Mobile put together, even though the market is less than a year old.

So, since the launch of the app store, what have you discarded? Which apps, good and innovative at the time, have fallen off you device or simply out of use completely.

For me I started off with the Moo Cow apps as they came out, but find now that I don't use them at all and have removed them from my iPhone now.

How about you?

This is another tenori-on like app, but it looks and sounds quite interesting from this video.

Instant Beat

I don't know about you but I think that things are really slowing down on the iPhone side of things, so I've been having a look around for any apps that I've overlooked, and I found Instant Beat, which looks like a nice little drum machine app.

If you've tried this please let me know. It looked like a bit more than the standard drum type app, of which there are quite a few.

What will the next miniMusic release be?

Have released the excllent pianofly I was wondering what the next release from miniMusic will be?

Will it bea nother app that's like one of there existing palm apps in the same way as pianofly was similar to soundpad but with lots more features? Or will it be something completely new and unique to theiphone ecosystem?

I guess we might find Putin July.

Where is the intersection?

On e of the many things on my mind of late is how we're beginning to see the use of audio in social media. Audioboo is a good example of this as is the use of Max/MSP in twitter.

But will we see new apps being developed with the ability to interact directly with these services? I think it would be really useful to be able to make a track on beatmaker and then post it up into audioboo right away.

Or how about making a patch in pianofly and sharing it in twitter there and then.

I don't know of any developers who are contemplating using these kind of features in their forthcoming apps or updates, but it seems like a real opportunity to me.

What do you think?

The original Looptastic app has also been updated (along with all the others I believe), and is now compatible with firmware 3.0. I guess we can expect this with lots of apps now as 3.0 becomes imminent.

New iPhone to have Video

There have been loads of rumours about the new iPhone having video recording and editing, so will this mean that Apple will open the video API to developers? Is it already available in 3.0?

When I think about some of the excellent camera apps that have surfaced for the iPhone I can only imagine the kind of video apps that will arrive if this is opened up properly. One of the things I've really wanted to see was an app like TrakAx Mobile for the iPhone.

I guess I've only got a few weeks to wait to see what actually comes along.

If you haven't tried iShred before, you really should:

DM iDrum app

I have to apologise for not spotting this before, especially as someone pointed it out to me in a comment. I haven't tried this particular iDrum version, but it is quite tempting. If anyone is using it please can you let me know what it is like, and I promise to pay more attention this time around.

More rumours of an Apple Tablet

In many ways it is inevitable that as the start of WWDC approaches we see more and more rumours about new devices, especially ones like this that just seem to come up every few months even though Apple say that they don't want to be in the netbook market.

Having said that the Russion mac cloner has made a very nice looking mac netbook clone. If I was in Russia I might be quite tempted.

ZoozBeat Rock and Hip hop

ZoozBeat have added two new variations to their app, a rock version and a hip hop version. I wonder if these kind of multiple app will vanish when developers can charge for in app content?
