If you're not using dropbox then it's something you should to check out as loads of apps are now using it as a default for online storage and for a variety of other purposes too, and it works quite well in my view. If you're not using it you can get your own dropbox by clicking this link, and what's more you'll get an extra 500mb just for using this link (and so will I)!
The default should be Box, nor Dropbox. I’ve far more room in my Box than in my Dropbox (which is permanently full).
ReplyDeleteI got my free 50GB some time ago on my Android phone, but there was a similar iOS offer more recently (not sure if it’s still active, try it): http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-score-50gb-of-free-cloud-storage-from-box/
The only real advantage Dropbox has over Box is that there is no straightforward way of using Box on Linux, hence my Dropbox is still required (but as I say, permanently almost full).
The biggest irk is iCloud. Simply not enough space supplied for free. If I have a Mac, I get 5GB free. If I have one iPad, I still only get that same 5GB, but now divided among the iPad and Mac. If I have four Macs, and three iPads, I still have the same 5GB which by now doesn’t work because everything has immediately filled it up without my even having to lift a finger. Hence, iCloud by default is broken and can’t work, if you’re a loyal Apple owner. I’m not paying more money for something that starts off failing like this (I’m not paying money for cloud storage full stop — the nearest thing to paying for cloud storage I’ll come to is my WD MyCloud device, which is mine and under my control).
In iCloud, if I have a 64GB iPad I must get 64GB free iCloud storage. Then if I buy another 128GB iPad, I absolutely must get an additional 128GB free iCloud storage on top of that. This is the way it should work. If I need more storage, I would have the option of paying for more (yeah, as if, but in theory the option is there). This is the way it must work, and because it doesn’t work correctly like this, it is beyond any doubt broken and useless and cannot be used. Literally. My iCloud can never be used.
Box is the way forward, with 50GB free. A WD My Cloud device is the next step for those needing more. Apps shouldn’t waste time with iCloud or Dropbox (both permanently full), and concentrate on integrating with an owners WD My Cloud, or alternatively, Box, which has more free room.
To follow up my previous comment, the iOS 50GB free offer is over, it seems, but there’s frequently offers on if one keeps alert. Here’s a url with what Box offers currently, and if you can find a way of signing in on any of those qualifying devices I suppose it’ll give you the larger amount. It’s worth a try:
