The long awaited Geo Synthesizer arrives! Here are the details:
Geo Synthesizer is a musical instrument and MIDI controller. A collaboration of Wizdom Music's Jordan Rudess and Kevin Chartier (MorphWiz, SampleWiz) and Rob Fielding (Mugician), Geo Synthesizer is an incredibly expressive musical instrument specifically created for a multitouch surface.
Jordan says: "Since touching a preliminary piano keyboard on an iPhone screen and realizing the amazing potential for musical expression on a multitouch device, I have been inspired to create next-generation musical instruments for iOS. Geo Synthesizer is a dream come true in many ways. It is the fastest truly playable iOS instrument that I have put my hands on to date. I can fly through the range of an instrument while expanding on the kind of advanced pitch control we introduced in MorphWiz. As someone who grew up with synthesizers, I can tell you that pitch bending has never been this good!
"Geo features many of my custom sounds and in addition, Geo is also a MIDI controller, so you can use it with any external midi instrument or virtual MIDI. Virtual MIDI allows you to control an app running in the background on the same device! A great feature of Geo is that internally and externally we send independent voices on each note played, so as an example, you can pitch bend one note and not the other, or add unique expression on every note! I can't wait to see the YouTube videos of all of you guys rocking out with Geo Synthesizer!!!"

I've been using Rob Fielding's Mugician for a long time, and eagerly waiting for Geo Synth. This thing is amazing! The midi implementation is almost perfect too. It's finally possible to do polyphonic bends and slides similar to the Haken Continuum on almost any synth. Thank you Rob!
ReplyDeletewohu! the Magician interface with a better sound engine ?bring it on! bought it in a sec.!
ReplyDeleteanyone able to get virtual midi working with sunrizer or samplewiz ipad 1 ?
ReplyDeleteMatt: I got Samplewiz working on my ipad 1 by enabling background midi in the midi settings in Samplewiz.
ReplyDeleteDay one purchase for me!
ReplyDeleteCould someone tell me how you are suppoesed to record a performance using virtual midi?
ReplyDeleteThrough Geo or the slave app?
Thx.
Interesting concept but the graphics... It looks like a Geocities website from the nineties!
ReplyDeleteYea I wish you could remap the graphics.
ReplyDeleteOne of the plesures of SoundPrism is the beauty interface and customizing the colors. I like some of Rudress's apps sound.
I guess he is beeing funny with the wizard suit and broom thing? I like a sence of humor.
In any case I figure I will be checking this app out but watching a kung fu movie instead of the ipad when I play.
Really quite amazing. I used it as a controller this morning, very responsive on an ADHOC network. The sounds are pretty sweet as is the easy layering with SampleWiz. Between this app, SlideControl, and Instrumental I pretty much have all the controller bases covered.
ReplyDelete@anonmymous
ReplyDeletethank you :-)
Kevin's a great programmer and a very nice guy, but they really need to hire a graphic designer.
ReplyDeleteDaumn the graphics are bad.
ReplyDeleteIs there any form of documentation?
ReplyDeletenope

@Matt Hooper: I emailed Mr. Fielding about Sunrizer. Currently (as of Nov. 1, 2011) it's incompatible.
